How often do you bathe a Corgi?
I'm new to the Corgi thing. How often should you bathe a Corgi? Do you use the stuff you buy in a pet store, or does gentle people shampoo work?

I wash Chloe once a month right before she gets her flea treatment. Her doggy smell gets a little strong. I take her to our local pet store that has a self serve dog wash. It is great! The store provides a gentle shampoo, towels, blow dryer, brushes, and they clean up after we are done.

Mine get bathed in the bathtub with doggie shampoo every three months or so, though they get quick hose-offs quite a bit more frequently than that because they like to roll in the chicken poop in the yard. I've found my corgis don't need actual baths that often, as I brush them about once a week and that seems to clean them up amazingly well. They always seem so clean and gorgeous after a good brushing--I love it! I suppose I'm lucky that unless they do go for a roll in the chicken poop, my dogs don't tend to be the smelly sort at all. And these dogs sleep on my bed with me most of the time, so I'm pretty sure I'd notice if they were stinky!
I've heard it's better not to bathe your corgi more than once a month because it dries out their skin, but I'm sure that depends on what shampoo you're using and whatnot. Personally, unless you have a really dirty dog I can't see why a bath would be necessary more than that, but of course everyone has different dogs and different circumstances, so I'm not criticizing or anything. :)

I only give my dogs a bath once maybe twice a year...I use oatmeal shampoo from my vet but I have used my Aveeda (I know...not people shampoo) when I've been out...this isn't made with all the chemicals regular people shampoo has and they smell soooooo good. But before they go roll in the dead animal remains...they manage to get my carpet nice and wet!!!

Grissom has the ability to get filthy faster than any dog I know. He gets a bath about once every week or so. He goes to daycare about 5 days a week though, so he gets all slobbery and rolls around on the floor a lot.
I just John Paul shampoo for dogs. I absolutely love it, because it's super mild (the one and only shampoo that doesn't make my Shepherd go into an itching frenzy) and it doesn't strip the natural oils from his coat. With other shampoos, his silky smooth coat looked far less shiney after a bath... but not with this one.

I give Ella a bath every 2 weeks, and I use a "white" dog shampoo since her coat has a lot of white. I bought this at a local store, but all of the pet stores have similar types. This one smells like raspberries. Since her whole belly is white and gets dirty really easily, I rub the shampoo in her belly first and let it sit for a minute while I scrub the rest of her. I do a towel dry and then brush her.

I just got finished bathing Newton and he is a real treat! I love the process and schedule it once a month on Sunday. My favorite product to use is a Calming Aromatherapy Leave-in Conditioner made by "Doggie Spa", it smells so good (Lavender and Chamomile) and makes his coat uber soft!
After I spray in the leave in conditioner I brush him out with a Furminator comb ( I would highly suggest getting one) that helps his shedding.

I give Wrigley a bath about once a month, it seems to keep his coat shinier and softer and he doesn't smell like poop.

I don't think we have a regular schedule. Jack gets a bath when he starts to smell bad. In the summer, he hops in and out of a kiddie pool a lot, and therefore he stays pretty clean and doesn't get bathed that often. His last bath was in June, when we brought him back from being boarded. In the winter, since he does not get rinsed off in a pool, I'd say on average every 4-6 weeks.
You will notice if you let them go over a month, their natural oils start coming in and really shines up their coat.
The other thing to remember is if you have your dog on a topical flea-and-tick medication (like Frontline or Advantix), you should not bathe 2 days before or 2 days after application. They need the oils in their coat to move the medication around to protect the whole dog.

I'd say I bathe Kari about once a month unless she gets into something. I just use a mild white dog shampoo cause it really makes her belly shine. She is a real dog and if it can be found, she will get into it so thats why she usually gets a bath.

It depends where we've been vacationing. Usually it involves salt water so a rinse with fresh water (no soap) gets the salt off. A good bath with soap is usually in the summer. As John typed, "eau de bird poop" is Putt's aftershave.

Human shampoo won't work, that's what our breeder said so we haven't tried.
I used a shampoo bought from Petsmart and it was very hard to wash it off with all the hair. It gave Shiro dandruff and he was itchy all the time. Now I use a pet soap from Herbaria and I like it. If foams well and washes off nicely.
Whatever you use make sure there's no trace of soap left on the fur.
How frequently? When he stinks or gets extremely dirty, usualy no more than every other week. Before 5 months old Shiro had soft puppy fur and it was getting dirty faster. One trip to a park was enough for him to look like a stray. So he was bathed every week back then.
