Alligator on a string! Help with Loose Leash Walking?

Posted on July 15, 2008 at 5:25pm 6 Comments

My puppy Lucy totally forgets all commands when we are on a walk. She doesn't seem to be getting the loose leash walking idea when I turn into a tree...she just zips around at the end of the leash in a circle still holding it taut. There aren't any animal distractions just normal exciting outdoor stuff. All I want right now is a non-pulling dog. She can wander in front, back or to the side. I just want zero tension on the lead.

Sometimes she does look at me and it loosens up a bit… Continue

Soft sided pet carrier recommendation for corgis?

Posted on June 26, 2008 at 1:30pm 11 Comments

Lucy is GROWING! She is getting so long she doesn't fit in her nice travel crate any more. We are on the go every weekend and have loved the soft sided one we've been using, but alas....and I know she's only 3 months old so no telling how much more she'll grow.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a LONG one that is working well for your adult corgi. She will be positioned in between my boys on the bench seat in back, and we really want her inside the crate. She falls asleep… Continue

Doggie deodorant?

Posted on June 25, 2008 at 7:29pm 13 Comments

Ok, I must admit I may be too picky. Lucy smells too doggie. Is this a corgi thing or just that is the way it is with dogs?

I know I am not supposed to give her too many baths, but after 3 days she is starting to really smell again. Not the sweet little puppy smell, sadly that is gone. This is just a dog smell. A lady I talked with today has two aussies and could not remember the last time she gave them a bath. She does clean their feet though when they are muddy.

Bug bites on da baby's belly!

Posted on June 14, 2008 at 10:00am 6 Comments

Lucy has gotten so many bug bites! When I take her outside she comes in and has a few new ones each time. I talked to the vet and he suggested Skin So Soft by Avon. Being a Southern girl, I have heard about that bug repellent for years but did not know if it was a myth or not? Anyone with experience in SSS?

I also talked with another mom recently about bugs, and she suggested Burt's Bees Bug Repellent that she said kept even "nuclear mosquitos" away in Miami! That must be good stuff.… Continue

Help with rude owners?

Posted on June 4, 2008 at 8:52am 6 Comments

What do you do about dogs off leash at public parks? I take Lucy to our son's baseball games and many others bring their pets too - on leash. One family always lets their big dog off to run loose, hits it when it misbehaves, etc. This dog is scary to Lucy, won't leave her alone, and I would like to relax a bit and watch my son play in peace.

I also was at another park last week and there was a big dog loose without any owners in sight. I picked Lucy up because it was turning ugly,… Continue

Lucy is cute as hell! Love the Tri's! I wish George was that small again. Puppydom is such a pain in the @$$ at times... but it's over waaaay too quickly, and then you wish you had it all back again. Enjoy it while you can!

No, I just use the regular puppy shampoo but I bought her some puppy fragrance spray for little girl dogs and another for Chap for male dogs....it kind of helps (hide the dog smell) between bathes...I got them at Walmart I think! Lisa P from WV

That's a good idea to put the treats in the water bottle. Daisy likes to play with a water bottle too! I'll have to try the treat trick! I also saw you are in Nascar country...my 11 year old son is a Nascar nut...He like Jeff Gordon...I like Kacey Kahyne who won today!
I also like your info on the baby nail clippers...I bought dog nail clippers and they are not the sharpest clippers ever invented! I TRIED to do Daisy's nails and one split on me and I have not tried since. Our mix has some VERY VERY long nails so maybe I'll try adult clippers on him! Thanks for all the info your page has been helpful!

Hi cutie Lucy!!!!

No, I have not gotten the Peticure yet, but really need to do something soon. I will let you know how it works. I definitly can not do Dingo's nails with regular Dog nail clippers. He freaks out and then it scares me.

Have fun with your little tri Corgi :) She is adorable!!

I believe the "Rollover" comments are here...

The big mistake I made was to keep giving commands. Now I make sure he is paying attention, then give a command and wait. if he doesnt do it in a reasonable time I just walk off. To actually teach the roll-over I asked him to "rollover" then physically rolled him on his back and let him flip himself back over. I pushed him less and less each time and he started doing it himself. When he didnt I would physically help him out.

Aww I bet you are excited! Yes I kept him in my room with me...he is pretty spoiled now and I haven't even had him two weeks yet lol. He sleeps with me at night in my bed. He is pretty good he wakes me up if he has to go out. For as little as he is he sure loves to hog the bed! Thanks for adding me :) Your puppy looks super cute!
