As some of you may know, I teach 7th graders. Overall the kids like me and I like them. They love to see pictures and videos of Bear and Goldy and often if I'm out for a day, when I return they rarely ask about my health - but instead the dogs' health - making sure I haven't missed because one of my furbabies are sick.
During a punctuation lesson earlier this week on Monday we were reviewing Miss, Ms. and Mrs.
One of my students asked, "Ms. H are you…

We're in a bit of a pattern here in Kentucky.
It snows, all the schools close, we're out for a day or two, the skies clear for 5 days, then the cycle repeats.
This cycle has almost repeated perfectly since the 2nd week of December - if it weren't so troublesome it would be amazing.
Here is yet another short video of my two beasts enjoying the snow.
Besides baking and cleaning, videoing the dogs is one of the few things that…

I'm pretty sure that watching Bear with his new Kong Wobbler is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. He figured out that the snacks come out - but when they don't pop out easily, he growls and barks at it.

I've been down for about 3 days with the flu. The kick your butt 103 fever kind of flu and the best distraction from it all has been watching the reaction of Bear and Goldy.
Having always been intrigued by the stories of dogs sniffing out cancer and sensing seizures, I noticed the following things while I've been sick:
1. The higher my fever got, the closer my corgis got. The best way to describe it is that it seemed like they were trying to pull…

We moved into the new house in June. The house came with a dog door that is a bit big and high for corgis. The dog that was here before was a husky.
In June I worked with Bear and Goldy to go through the door - I followed all kinds of training advice. They would go right through it when the flap was up, but put the flap down and no go.
I understood their fear, the door is a bit high for them and they literally have to jump through it and I'm sure…

We made our first Emergency Vet Visit this week. My neighbor came over to relax and chat and slipped off her shoes and socks. Bear has always loved socks, but usually he just wants to play tug of war with them. He grabbed hers and as I went to him to tell him "Drop It" which we learned forever ago and works, he looked me square in the eye and swallowed it. It was one of those thin footie sock things. So $133 later, he vomited it right up for them and we came…

Today I decided to give the beasts a bath. Their last bath was in February I think- so I figured it was time. After Goldy's bath, she was frapping crazy around the house and as she worked her usual track from the couch down the hall to the bedroom and back, she missed the couch - hit the front of it, yelped, and hobbled down the hall on 3 legs and hid in a corner. I immediately called my neighbor, thinking my sweet girl had broken her leg. It's a nightmare to try to look at one dog as the other…

I've always known that animals grieve, but what an amazing video capture of the true depth of their pain.

I used to be one of those people, but I pushed through my feelings and crate trained both of my dogs.
This is a sight that often makes me smile.

I was lucky enough to stumble upon the movie based on Dr. Temple Grandin's life on HBO today. As a teacher, I have always been fascinated by autism and its varying degrees of brilliance vs. disability and this movie appealed to me on so many levels.
Claire Danes if fantastic in her portrayal of Grandin and the content of the movie along with Grandin's understanding of animals is totally engaging.
She has written many books, but one that I am…

I picked this book up at Barnes and Noble today - why? Well, the title was funny and there was a corgi on the back cover. If you're a woman looking for a great summertime read, this one is a must!
Here's a link to the pictures of her doggies - scroll WAY down for pics of Ruby the Corgi. I've posted one of them below this post.…

I love my dogs. Like many Corgis, neither of mine are lovers. They don't care for snuggling, they give me only one or two opportunities a day to love on them. And forget hugs, they act like twelve year olds when their mom kisses them in front of school! But, they get it honestly...I'm not a big softie either. I tend to play rather than cuddle and joke rather than sweet talk.
As many of you know, I teach 7th graders and this time of year can be particularly challenging.…
