More Agility!

Baxter had his third agility class last night. I missed writing about the second one, so I'll just give the highlights:

  • Baxter started off with a single jump that was to be wrapped and followed by a second. On his first try, we successfully jumped once and wrapped to the next jump. The trainer was impressed!
  • Baxter got some time on just about all the equipment pieces. He loves the tunnel, did great on the wobble board, and can definitely walk the dog walk.
  • His…

Basic Agility Class

Last night Baxter had his first basic agility class. The trainer was really great. I'm not sure when we'll be heading back for a second class, but she was very understanding and gave us a whole lesson plan to work on. Here are the basics we will be covering:…

Calming an excited vocal dog

Chloe turned 2 June 18th. She is a very excited, vocal dog. We have been taking agility lessons for a few months and she is very excited while we are waiting our turn. She whines, barks when it is not her turn. She was this way in obediance too. It is embarrassing. I tell her quiet, say wait your turn, hold her mouth closed, stroke her and she will not shut up.

She obviously loves this event, but dealing with this is frustrating and annoying.

What have other…

The Fun of Finding a Good Performance Dog Breeder

I've always loved both corgi breeds and when I originally set out to get my first corgi it was suggested I get a Cardigan as they are typically more laid-back. I wanted to go full-throttle so I got a Pembroke. Bernie was quite an adventure for a first-time dog owner. She still keeps me on my toes thinking ahead and taught me a lot as a dog trainer.

My second corgi came from the same breeder and we got a gorgeous male tri-color. He is laid-back but loves to play. He makes the perfect… Continue

Agility class one

Tuesday night we had our 1st class. Chloe seemed to pick it right up, me I need to practice.

The instructor has us reward with food. She recommends hot dogs.

Chloe is not food agressive with us, but with other dogs around she can be quite competive and not nice to her classmates.

How do you get the dog to not be food agressive to other dogs??

Agility

Sky is going to start Agility classes this week! I am so excited and I know he would be too if he understood. Has anyone ever done agility before? Any stories or suggestions?

Merlin's First Agility Trial

Merlin was entered in his first ever agility trial this past Sunday at Flash Point Agility. It was a CPE trial, and the scary part was that it was held outdoors. On a farm. With sheep. Merlin *loves* sheep.

Amazingly, Merlin didn't seem freaked out at all by the setting. He normally is pretty leery of new stuff and new places, but he didn't bat an eye. He has been known to sit down and scratch his ear furiously when he's nervous or stressed, and he didn't do that once. So I feel like… Continue

Our first blog post!

We've been wanting to blog on here, but between my business, doggie walks, agility and an upcoming trial, there honestly hasn't been much time. So this is our first blog post! :)

Today we're working on weave poles some more, because ya just can't work too much on weaves. :) Okay, you really can. But we try to practice every day, and he's doing awesome! Every day I see a huge improvement. I added a jump in front of the weaves, and he's great at jumping then weaving (unlike a certain… Continue

Dudley attends the annual Thanksgiving Agility Trial

This year Dudley participated! We've been having some training issues lately plus my husband was in the hospital after the last trial so our training plan got scrapped. Because of all this I didn't get Dudley weaving by the time the trial rolled around, so I didn't plan on running him. The issue we've been working on is Dudley running out of the ring during a run. If Dudley sees what he considers an exit, he takes it. I discussed it with my instructor and we decided that it would be best not to… Continue

Bindi started agility classes!!!

This past Sunday, Bindi started agility at Dogwood Park in Jacksonville and she loves it! I'm not really sure how long it takes dogs to catch on to everything, but she was a fast learner. At first, she tried to go around the hurdle jumps and tunnel, but after she realized what she was supposed to do she was unstoppable.

So far we have worked on the single jump (I think thats what it is called), the tunnel, and the a-frame. Bindi goes over the a-frame really fast, its almost scary.… Continue

Agility & Bernie Eats The Remote

Last night we ran both the jumpers and the standard courses. Normally we don't have enough time to do both but I guess my class is getting advanced enough that running full courses gives us more time.

Bernie did ok on the jumpers. She ran off a few times on me and got really sniffy in this one spot. I had to do all sorts of things to gain her attention again. At one point I was jumping up and down to get her to look at me and it worked. Maren laughed and said that was really good… Continue

Agility & Learning to Think Like a Dog

Well after getting over my migraine and waking up Tuesday morning to find a sick Basil and a mess all over the place - I took the day off to recoup.

After a nap and keeping an eye on Basil throughout the day I felt good enough to go to agility that evening. A new 8 week course was beginning and it has been 2-3 months since Bernie and I have done anything.

There were a few new dogs in my class and a few old friends. An aussie in the class was particularly enamored with… Continue

kaley~corgi USDAA agility (standard run) ----- does it her way, but i still "WIN" even if we NQ!

Yes, how is it that i win and we NQ, did not qualify! Quite simply, kaley corgi stays on the field for 139.90 seconds, rather than the 72 seconds allowed and fraps to her hearts content ------------ refusing the "TABLE" obstacle.

no, i did not fall, but i thought if i got down on her level, she would get on the table! she does eventually, but runs off, a big tease! I tried to tease too by saying, "wanta cookie?"

She… Continue

AHHHGILITY---- i LOVE IT!

Kaley~corgi and I both say the same thing, agility, we love it, and it is soo much nicer now that we are beginning to look pretty good on the course, staying together! She still fraps a bit, or gets frustrated, or something seems to happen, where she goes off course!

Dan takes pics and I look at them all, and try to figure out went wrong. She will run off course, but I am able to bring her back quicker and resume the sequence.

This July 4th weekend it is a USDAA… Continue
