Jack and the Easter Cake: Let's hear funny food stories!

Let's hear your funny "Corgi and food" stories!

Neither of my dogs actively beg, though both will sit hopefully nearby when we eat.  They will crowd my husband because he sometimes gives them bits of apple or popcorn.

However, there are some things they know they get and then it's another story.  We sometimes give them scrambled eggs, and we always toss them a few bits of breakfast cereal if we're having that in the morning.  They'll get a little lettuce when we're making a salad, and the tiniest crumb of cheese if we're making a sandwich.

For the foods that the dogs know they will get, Jack will helpfully remind us if we "forget."  He's so thoughtful!  :)   He'll sit in the kitchen and say "Huph" under his breath, wait 30 seconds and say "Huph" again.  So if for instance we have scrambled them an egg and it's cooling on the counter; or if my husband "forgot" to give them their obligatory 2 bits of cereal, he'll "huph" in the kitchen til we "remember" his share.

That's the backstory.

For Easter, I made a lemon pound cake and baked it in a Bundt pan.  Those of you who bake may know that "depanning" can be difficult with a Bundt.   Well, last Saturday, a fancy dessert was not to be.  I tried every trick I knew, but the cake came out of the pan in bits.  I'd say about two-thirds came out on the first attempt.  After much effort, about another sixth came out, then a chunk, then a section, and so on.  It was a moist cake so I managed to cobble it back together (thank goodness it was for family and not a formal occasion!).  But in the process, a big hunk fell on the floor.

Jack managed to get a nice big hunk before I got it away.  Poor Maddie was too slow on the uptake and missed her share.  But... well, I guess Jack now thinks that lemon Bundt cake is on the list of "food the dogs get."

I put the cobbled-together cake on the counter to cool.... and Jack sat in the kitchen the entire time, saying "Huph" very helpfully, every minute or so.  No pacing, no whining, just patiently lying on the kitchen floor.   "Huph.   (pause pause pause)  Huph."

I put the cake in a covered cake-carrier and he figured no more was coming his way, but the next morning I glazed it and left the carrier open for the glaze to set while we ate breakfast and, you guessed it:  "Huph" the entire time.

There were leftovers which went in the freezer.  The other night my husband and I got a piece out and left it to thaw on the counter.  Jack ignored it while it was wrapped, but when we cut it in pieces and left it on plates to come to room temperature, well back he went to lying patiently on the floor, "reminding" us that he had not yet had his share.

Silly Corgis!

Anyone else have funny food stories?  I'm sure there are lots out there!

How right you are!!!Their little snoopy noses fit right into a pocket!

Haha, this reminds me of Maisy's best food story. (She is not a Corgi. Are non-Corgi food stories allowed??) Maisy is even more of a chow hound than our Corgi, Blossom, and she knows how to work a crowd. It was Thanksgiving, and my sister had set the table for 20, a long white-table-clothed table--beautiful. My husband walked into the dining room to find Miss Maisy strolling down the table as if it were a cat walk. There was no food on it yet, but she was anticipating. As people seated themselves, Maisy took notice. Everyone was seated but one. Maisy took this opportunity to seat herself. Her head just cresting the table, she sat there like a person, ready to be served. Frankly, I was shocked at how polite she was being. After dinner, she ever so methodically worked the crowd, hopping in laps counterclockwise around the table to endear herself to any sucker who might spare her a morsel.
Mine hear the plastic  bag from the cheese wrapper and they come running. I have left dog treats or food or the wrappers from a drive through in my car and when I returned found empty bags/wrappers and holes with papers strewn all over the place.

Ruby is a typical greedy corgi, no one is allowed to  eat unless they share with her and that includes her pussy cat room mates. She even steals from the neighbours dog.

Another Sparty story: We were walking outside with friends after getting ice cream cones. One person accidentally dropped the huge scoop of ice cream out of her cone and in a split second Sparty had devoured it. Her husband said "Are you sure it fell?"
Haha! Swift corgi ; )
Milly likes to check out the grocery bags when I bring them home but never takes or licks anything except for the one time. She had her head in the bag for awhile would bring it out and back again. I thought she was just sniffing until I saw that she was licking her chops. I had bought kefir to try (a liquid probiotic drink similar to plain yogurt) since I had never had it before. Well, whether she opened it or it was already opened I don't know but she had managed to get about half of it into her before I noticed a huge white rim on her snout :) Needless to say, I didn't try that batch of kefir but Milly loved it.
Maddie sticks her head in the bags every time.  If you give her a stern "Madison!" she'll put her ears back and waggle and look all sorry... and then turn right around and stick her head back in again.
That is just too cute! Thank u for sharing Beth :) I don't have any stories lol but i sure loved reading yours and the others. By the way, I hope Jack had a very special 4th Birthday!
Bear likes popcorn so much that when he starts to hear it popping in the microwave he goes and sits in front of the counter where the microwave is.

When the microwave beeps, he comes racing to me, barking, then back to the kitchen, then back to me.

By the time I get it in a bowl and come into the living room he's doing every trick he knows - he'll sit, look at me, lay down, look at me, put a paw up for shake, look at me - then the cycle begins again.

Cracks me up everytime.
So cute!  Jack will start waving his paw at me if he thinks I'm taking too long giving him a treat he knows is coming.
Lol!
