I was minding my own this evening, watching the rest of the "Planet Earth" series on Discovery (It is an awesome documentary, watch it asap), when I hear this noise that sounds vaguely like insects swarming. Only inside the house! So I jump up and pan the room for Cheez-it's happenings and he isnt around. I glance down and there he is at my feet in a play-induced coma. I followed the sound to the kitchen, there is a giant beetle making sweet love to the lightbulb. Sort of odd, it's the sort of…

I started back at work and was pleasantly suprised how well Cheez-it is handling the matter. He doesnt fuss when I leave and he is quiet when I come home. I leave him out all the time when I am home and even let him sleep outside the kennel now for his many puppy-naps. (which have decreased in frequency by 300% since 8wks). I try my best to wear him out before I leave and before he goes to bed, but he is "always" awake now. I imagine because he sleeps all day while I am gone. After the 5 hour…

While I cant tell you for sure if it's the food, the broth, or the de-tapeworming. What I can tell you is that right now in Cheez-burger land, Chicken-broth infused Blue Buffalo is a hot commodity. Which is a very big relief on my part, and it's great to see him eat a little more now. He was de-tapewormed on Saturday and I mixed him BlueBuff and his usual Eukenuba (1:3 ratio) for lunch and he ate the Blue Buffalo leaving all the Eukenuba in the bown still. For dinner I gave him the same rations…

As you may know, little Cheez-it had a case of worms two days ago. It was a bit of a shock at first, but then it occured to me that well, dogs get worms. So I considered getting an over the counter de-wormer, seeked advice on these forums (which was a great help, thanks everyone). I decided to wait it out and have the vet take care of the issue. After a few minutes (and some shots with pill-laced tuna) I placed him on the examination table and a worm appeared below him. I thought that was sort…

At the least time expected I came down with a dramatic case of "the work". You know the symptoms, pretend-coughing, lack of initiative, that bland Mon-Fri look in the face. I unknowingly answered a ringing phone (what else do you do with one) before checking the Caller-ID. I knew my mistake before even finishing "hello". There was some emergengy, so-and-so wouldnt be able to come in in time and things needed to be done! Somehow, unfortunately my name was at the top of a memo entitled…

Update:
Well some good news! (sort of)
Today, literally right after leaving the vets office for 2nd shots, he pooped in the grass and I spotted "Rice". I believe to be roundworms... The vet cant see him again until Saturday (a day and a half). Should I get some OTC dewormer? Or wait it out? I think this might be why he doesnt like to eat.

Well, the last 3 days we have been struggling with Cheez-its anorexia problem. (Not…

Before getting on with the explanation, Cheez-it has gone 3 days now with NO accidents!!
I have a horrible Craigslist addiction, I routinely hunt for furniture, cars, and always glance at the pets section. have no idea why, mabye the allure of getting something for nothing, but more often than not you get something for something. I am fairly good at appraising cars, I like to purchase specific Mitsubishis that I know alot about and repair and resell them. It helps pass the time I…

Dogs as I know them devour food, objects, and the occasional live animal. You can prevent the latter two, unless the third is something you prefer, but the first is a requirement, and not an area where my dog excels. When I took him home he had a little bag of Eukenuba puppy food, it had very small bites and he was quite intrested in eating it. The first day I simply left the bowl down so he could eat when he wanted and get familier with it's location. I got some Eukenuba puppy food, the same…

Foreword: Sorry for the post being so lengthy.
I am quite confidant that the little Cheez-butt (Cheez-it) knows when I expect him to fertalize. Outside I proclaim "Potty!!" and he starts circling his spot like an aircraft homing in on a target. Unfortunately he's one of those 1950's biplanes and this maneuver can take quite some time. When we play in the house I can tell when he needs to go, and take him out accordingly. However, when he is waking from a nap, which he always…

I'm a little late in the game with this, my most recent blog post. Yesterday was an absolute awesome day for the little Cheez-doodle (Cheez-it). We started the morning with no fuss, took to the outside demonstrating gracefull leash control. I started "treating" after "potty" first thing. After the business was done, we went on a short little walk around a couple of houses. (Mabye 1/8th of a mile, but the farthest he has ever been). I think he took it as a treat for going potty so quickly…

Today, cheez-it was a little terror. He suddenly developed a taste for shoes. I walked him around the house with his leash on, I sort of held im next to me in the heal position to stop him from eating the leash. He is doing alright with the leash, but he absolutely refuses to use the bathroom while it is attached. Our first and last leash-walk began after he pee'd in the usual spot in my living room, and ended with me reeling him in like a Marlin, fishy movements and all. This is when I noticed…

It just turned 6 am, and he is finally asleep for what I think will be the long haul. I noticed he sleeps several 1 hour naps all day and one large 5 hour one once the lights are out. I woke up this morning from the sound of his cage creaking. He wasnt barky, mis-behaved, he actually stayed pretty calm and chewed a nylabone until I got up. Today was a serious effort in potty-training and I learned alot of things about his personality. Even in the 48 hours he's been here, he has came along way…

I went to pickup my pup from the vet/breeder health check today. I was very excited to take him home. The vet said that he has an inguinal (spelling??) hernia. It is slightly visible on his lower left side on his inner stomache. I was given the option to take another pup when she gets one ect.. I know that these are fairly common in female dogs, but happen in males too. We worked out a solution, and I took Cheez-it home in spite of his issue. He seems to be doing great, he went through cycles…

I started vacation with a bang today. On top of the excitement that is finally picking up my pooch tomarrow, my auto insurance just dropped almost 1.5k a year from my recent birthday! Oh, and I am on a 30 day paid vacation, which is always good. I am going to the vet tomarrow about 2 cities over to see little Cheez-it for the first time and take him to my family's house which is close by. They have a corgi-sized lab/corgi/chow mix that is very personable but old in age, curious to know how the…

I had to miss the puppy visit for work reasons so I could be off when I bring him home. Thats a bummer, but at least I was sent this new video! 9 more days and he comes to his new home!

He's the "James's puppy called CheeseCake", I actually named him Cheez-it though, need to update that with the breeder incase it goes on any paperwork. What an eater he is, barely takes a second to breathe! Puppys first dry food.

I was sent a new video of my pup at the breeder. His face is so dark, hard to imagine that he is even a Corgi. Cheez-it is the one she calls "James's puppy". I like the updates, thats a thoughtfull breeder. I hope he starts to lighten up so I can see what pattern he is going to have. He is supposed to be a red/white but I am thinking he is sabled.

The pup is still at the breeder! I since decided to change his name to "Cheez-it". I also was given links to two videos of the pups, however when I put them here from Youtube they did not play. I believe it is because I sort of bypassed their "disable embed" option with some html trickery... Well they can be seen at youtube at least....

Not much to say at this point. I can visit my little guy later this month and pick him up 2 weeks after that. I am very excited. I will keep a blog of how he progresses with me! Any tips for a new Corgi-owner?
