Welp, I have to admit it: I seriously did not think a corgi could rise to the level of a German shepherd, the dogs of my dreams (okay, okay: and nightmares). But by golly: Cassie the Corgi just did it.
After the Adventures in Medical Science (that would be 6 surgeries in 12 months), I fell into a kind of lassitude in which I let everything, business and personal, go to pot. But lately a small recovery has occurred.
Yesterday I happened to notice that I haven't cleaned…

You'd never know it.
This afternoon while scanning through some old blog posts by way of gathering stuff for a blog-based bookoid, I came across a post dated June 14, 2008, announcing the arrival of Cassie the Corgi at the Funny Farm. In it, I remarked that the Humane Society said her former humans told them she was two years old.
That would make her ten years old now!
Who would think…

...DOG HAIR.
Quite a lot of dog hair. :-D
So does your human.
It's been past time for Cassie and Ruby's doggy baths for quite awhile. I try to put off bathing them until the weather is warm, because I'm afraid of getting them chilled. Ruby has normal fur, but Cassie's hair is like a lion's mane, only all over her body. It's so thick and lush that it takes all day long to get dry, even in Arizona's parched climate.
Today the…

My sweet Lily started dragging her right rear leg a couple months ago. I took her to the vet and they poked and prodded and put her on bed rest, anti-inflammatory meds and gabapentin. She has never exhibited pain and still is able to run around the house and takes great joy in chasing the boys while they play ball in the yard. If this were a slipped disc I would think that she would be in pain or cry with exertion of any kind...Am I wrong?
She used to sit on her rear feet, but now…

Yesterday we lost our Snoopy. Well past age 14, he finally slowed to a stop. He collapsed in the front yard and passed away an hour later at the vets. No sickness really, just a slow down to a finish. Looking back over the last few weeks I can see there were subtle signs of a failing heart or just an old…

Luna is 4 months old tomorrow (7/6) and she has been pawing at her mouth a lot. I know she is teething and just want to be sure that this is a reaction to that and not something more. Today I thought she was scratching at her collar like usual, but she was definitely itching at her mouth.
Also, she's been on antibiotics for a UTI and I am noticing that the greenish discharge isn't going away after she…

Dogs bite: some 4.7 million times a year, leading 800,000 humans to seek medical attention, of whom 386,000 will need emergency treatment. A third of all homeowner’s liability claims result from dog bites, at an average cost per claim of $32,072. Every year, the insurance industry shells out over a billion dollars for dog-bite claims.
My son, a claims adjuster for a major US insurance company,…

Dear All.
After a year of researching I am finally ready to get a corgi pup!
I will take my time to search for a good breeder, but in the case I can't find one (I live in Shanghai)
I want to make sure the puppy I get doesn't come from puppy mills & is healthy.
SO I have several questions:
1. Can you share with me your corgi pictures when they are still babies & when they grow up for comparison?
2. How to differentiate a…

Hi, everyone!
What's your dog's favorite chew that lasts longer than ten minutes? So far the best chewing device that lasts the longest in my household are bully sticks (the quality kind, otherwise kinds from brands like Ol' Roy get chewed up in a sitting) and pig skin twists (those seem to last about a day or two).
I have a variety of different flavored Nylabones, but they're not interested in those.
Any suggestions? I have a 1.5 year-old and…

Hi, friends!
I want everyone to meet Margo, my new family addition! She's a 6mo-old black brindle Cardigan Welsh Corgi (from a breeder, held for show but her sister ended up being just a bit better in the show evaluation so she was re-homed). She's SUPER sweet! Loves to lick faces and wag her fox tail!
The first few days:
She has only been home for three days, but already her and Gutie (my 1.5 year-old male Pem) zoom and wrestle through the house like they were born…

This is maybe a long shot but there was a loose Corgi adult male in SE Iowa City-looks like a Pembroke by the pic and quite a bit of black-he was turned into ICACC for scanning and to find the owner. BTW-he is fine-just needs his parents. Contact ICACC if he's yours or you know who he belongs to.

Hi, friends!
I live in Wisconsin at the tippy top right on the peninsula on Lake Superior. October-March it is below 60 degrees everyday (Dec-Feb it's commonly negative in temperature), but we do get the occasional "heat stroke" in October or March where it spikes to 60, sometimes 80 degrees for a day. I've had Gutie on heartworm medication every month, but my vet has suggested that Gutie doesn't need it when it gets below 40 degrees. She suggested that I just administer Pyrantel…
