Dunk-a-Pup!

Holy Sheee-ut! That was too, too close!

I'm sitting here on the back porch writing a long-overdue blog round-up for Funny. Pup and Cassie are dorking around, squabbling over bully sticks, loafing, and (in Pup's case) searching for noxious plants to chew on. Pup wanders over to the east end of…

Puppy Food Antics and Discoveries

So...after a commenter here at MyCorgi.com suggested conferring with a "holistic" vet, I googled "<same>" and discovered one such person at the mega-commercial-vet that is the legacy of my old friend, now retired, and all-around great vet and redneck good-ole-boy, Jerry Jenkins. Who'd've thunk it? Jerry's veterinary empire is right down the road, as opposed to halfway across the city where I've been schlepping Cassie and now, New Pup.

Well. It was off to…

Puppy Pees by Mental Telepathy!

How on earth does she DO that?

This little dog can lay down a puddle without ever being in the vicinity of the puddle! Don't believe me, do ya? It's trooooo!

LOL! Admittedly, even though she was locked up with me and Cassie in the office, I got distracted trying to register the ISBN and copyright for a new book. The Copyright Office, in…

Dumbest Dog Owner I've Ever Met

There's a great discussion going on in the forum about aggressive dogs and morons who go around with their dogs off-leash.

This is one of my hobby-horses. I can get myself worked up to quite a high pitch on the subject. Here's the story:

The last German shepherd I had was strongly dog-aversive. This, it develops, is a common trait among GerSheps, aggravated in Anna's case by a…

Ridiculously Cute!

So while I was up at the Petsmart picking up another bag of puppy chow, I scored a nice medium-sized rope toy for Pup. She already had one but it has these nylon ribbon things running through it, which look like bright green hazards to me. Wanted her to have one that was all cotton.

Apparently she did, too! She went absolutely BONKERS over the thing and decided to carry it everywhere she went, like Linus and his blanket. Even took it outside to pee. Back in: carried it over to…

X-Pen: Whoever Mentioned It, THANKS!

So I'm pretty sure that it was here at MyCorgi.com where I came across someone's casual comment about an "x-pen."

Never heard of it, so looked it up in the Great Encyclopedia of the Ether (i.e., Google), saw pictures and pricing online, and thought...hey! That's just what the breeder was using to contain the pups in her living room! Not only that, but after yesterday's hilarious…

NAME THAT PUP!

Deadline for the Great Corgi Puppy-Naming Giveaway is coming up. This Sunday, Dear Son and I will drive to the far side of the galaxy to retrieve Pup from her breeder. I hope to have a name selected by 9:00 a.m. that day.

The prize for the…

Corgi off Her Feed

Okay, it's prob'ly too early to worry about this.

Last week, M'hijito boarded his ridiculously overbred Golden Retriever, Charley, at my house because he had the doggywobbles.

This was attributed to his having eaten a paper towel whilst counter-surfing. (Please...do NOT get me started!). Since said G.R. showed no serious signs of doggy diarrhea (maybe a little loose u-no-whats but no galloping urgency), I figured the kid was right about the paper-towel…

Puppy Pix Are Up!

M'jihito drove me out to Wittman yesterday for Puppy-Picking Day, his car being younger and more reliable than mine. We have a pup, a  little girl. A slew of Phone Photos are here:

Wittman is an hour's drive from central Phoenix. This factoid made for an innaresting day. I had choir call at 10…

How Does the Dog KNOW?

How does Cassie the Corgi know that the sound effects of a Mah Jongg game mean the Human is playing and not working, and therefore fair game for Ball Pestering?

How does the Corgi know when, as we jog around our mile-long tour of the neighborood, when I lengthen my stride so she can go a little faster...even before the stride has started to get any longer?

How does the Corgi know there's a cat in the front courtyard?

How does the Corgi know the…

The Coat, She is a-Blowin'

It's January. We're in what passes for the Northern hemisphere. Unless the Human is sadly mistaken, it's the middle of the freakin' winter!

But Cassie the Corgi, Queen of the Universe and Empress of All Time, Space, and Eternity,i is already blowing her coat.

I've always thought that birds decided when to migrate, honeybees decided when to swarm, and fierce little dogs decided when to shed according to the length of daylight hours in any given…

Puppy Tamales!

Now, I think this pose looks like a plate of tamales:

How adorable can you get, eh? One of these  little tamales is soon to be the Queen of the Universe's new roommate. Won't she be surprised?!

The Queen has still got a lot of ginger in her for a seven-year-old dowager. We actually jogged almost a full mile last night -- no mean feat for a dog…

The Pups Are Here!

Check ' em out: SEVEN brand-new corgi pups, arrived on this earth last night:

How amazing is that, eh? :-D

Breeder Lindsay Waldrep reports that all seven appear to be healthy and well -- at least at this early moment -- and they all appear to be red and white, like the Queen herself. There are…

How Plump Is a Plump Corgi, Anyhow?

Lately, I've been thinking the Queen of the Universe is looking a little on the sylph-like side...as in...maybe too thin?

She weighed 25 pounds when I got her from the pound. At that time, the vet opined that because she (the vet) thought she (the queen) was a little small for a corgi, she might be a little heavy for her size.

Her Royal Highness eats real food (not processed dog food, for reasons that I will refrain from elaborating because I don't feel like writing…

The Queen and Her Retinue

The human spent the holidays sick as a dog, trying to keep up with work on a laptop perched on the bed, day after endless day. The Queen of the Universe, as ever attentive to the underlings, reclined in her chamber, keeping an eye on the creature.

Her Exalted Highness in the Royal Bedchamber

More recently, the Queen's relative…

The Magical Curative Powers of Corgis

Cassie the Corgi, Queen of the Universe and Empress of All Time, Space, and Eternity, has (as you can imagine with a title like that) some magical qualities. Among them is the ability to cure aches and pains.

Now that I'm old, I hurt all over my bodeh. About two years ago I managed to hurt my back -- ignominiously, by perching in a stupid position in front of a computer…

The Puppies Are y-Cumin' In!

Our proposed new pup's breeder e-mails to report that one of her two pregnant dams has been to the vet, who believes she's carrying "at least"(!) five pups.

Heee! Is one of these blurry shadow's Cassie's new roommate?

These little guys are due shortly after Christmas. The other litter is expected between January 9 and 14. They're momma won't be examined…

The Tall Advantages of Short Legs

My son's English golden retriever, Charley, has been boarding with me and Cassie during work hours for the past two days.

At about two, Charley still has some puppy manners. Oh, what the heck. Let's just admit it: this is a beast for whom "training" has never been a very operative term. One of his favorite antics is counter-surfing. Meanwhile, it's worth noting that my son is truly a great cook, and that he likes to entertain his friends with wonderful…

When It's Too Cold for a Corgi...

...it's C-O-O-L-D!!!

Cassie is not among the some who like it hot. And where we live, it gets mighty hot -- 118 is not uncommon. So when we go for a walk during the late spring, summer, and early fall, it's after dark or before dawn, and even then when it's very warm, she pooples out after a block or two.

But once the weather cools into the 60s and low 70s...ahhhh! Dog joy. Then she can go and go and go.

I have to walk a mile a day -- preferably…
