thank you everyone for suggestions on rehoming my corgi

I want to thank you all for your suggestions and offers...however, when it comes down to actually making the decision to do this, we find that we cannot.  We cannot imagine being without our little guy and have decided to keep him and just work around any problems that arise.  Those Corgi lovers out there...all of you...know exactly what we mean.  Thank you though.

Return from LONG Hiatus

Shippo and I have been away from our regular website for quite some time now.  Life got in the way, and I was going through some super personal stuff.  I lost all motivation to do my normal activities, including visiting my favorite sites on the internet. But we're back now.

Alas, my camera also recently died, so any photos I post of Shippo between now and when I…

Corgi needs a new home in Central Florida

HI, we love our corgi puppy, but we travel a lot, and he really needs to be with someone that has possibly another dog to romp with or someone that can give him the attention he deserves. He is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi Tri colored and just turned 1 year old last week. He is also neutered. We are older and just can't be enough for a puppy's energy. Our last corgi, Murphy (13 years) died in Feb last year, and we grieved so much that we finally found a puppy to love, but we did not realize that they… Continue

potty training.

Hi! My boyfriend and I got a corgi puppy about a month ago and we just love her to death! However we having great deal of trouble with potty training. Most of the time she will tell us when she has to poop she goes to the wrong door to tell us even though we take her in and out through the same door. The other problem is she won't ever tell us when she has to pee. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Need Some Advice With New Puppy

Mozzie's first day home went really well.  He peed outside every time we went out and pooped outside twice. This morning was a different story.  He pooped in the living room twice.  My husband took him out for a 15 minute walk before leaving for work and he peed outside, then pooped inside right before he had to leave. This was at a quarter til 6am.  I let our son wake up before feeding Mozzie and then taking him outside to pee and poo and that was about 8:30-9am.  I had him outside twice…

Does anyone have this? It seems like a bit of a scam, but I am not sure! Thoughts?

Summer In March

It seems we've skipped spring here in New York.  We had spring-like temperatures for about one week before skipping right on to summer!  The temperature has been between 75 and 80 for the past week and Ellie has been enjoying every last minute of it.  We've been going out for daily walks and she loves meeting new people every day (though she wonders why none of them stop to pet her!)  She has become quite fond of a really tiny park near us and gets very excited once she notices we're walking…

Lonely Work

I've been working outside the past several days. The weather has been beautiful, though a bit warm for Illinois in March. I've had plenty of weeding and cleanup in all the flower beds. I'm not done by any means, but I have a great start for this early in the spring. The down-side has been the loneliness. This is the first spring in the eight years we have lived here that Stinky WInk hasn't been out there helping me. Every time I come around the house, I look for him to be lying in one of his…

calling another breeder today, hopefully this one is the one!

thanks to a wonderful member here at mycorgi, i got a lead on a breeder in tennessee (6 hours away) who is selling red and white pems for $350-400 (much cheaper than the $1500 i was told yesterday from another breeder!) it was apparently an ad in the newspaper, so there's not much info that i know except that both parents are akc registered and so are the pups. i'm going to call today and get more info and hopefully this will be the one! the ad says the puppies will be ready in april. the…

corgi voting

took Angel voting for the Illinois primary today.  She was as impressed as I was over the choice of candidates.  She managed to entertain the increadibly bored election judges with a few tricks.  just a few words of warning,  make sure you adquately walk your corgi before voting, she might want to drop dookee on the whole election process.  end of line

Leash training: how I stopped the lagging Corgi syndrome

My dog, like many on this list, was not a leash-puller from in front but from behind.  I was very inspired by this video:

dog leash video

My puppy had become extremely leash resistant, it was a struggle getting him to the corner.   Putting treats down as the woman in the video does helped a lot to break that dynamic.  I also took a hint from a training book and…

I just called my first breeder

and it was the scariest thing ever! it only lasted about a minute because she said she was in a meeting and would call back. i was so nervous! i'm anxiously awaiting her call back. does anyone have any advice on how to make a good first impression to a breeder over the phone? what are the right things to say? what do they like to hear in a first conversation? i have my list of important questions i would like to ask her, but i obviously can't start off by bombarding her with…

Scary Jump!

I walked Bartleby to a park today, and there was a ledge maybe 5 feet high between where the grass started (it was on a hill) and where the sidewalk was. Bartleby was walking along the ledge on leash, I was right next to him, and didn't perceive that he'd be dumb enough to jump off the ledge onto the concrete. I was wrong. He ran a little ahead of me and jumped for the sidewalk. He didn't yelp out at all but I made a loud shout in fear he was going to break his bones. Mid-air he seemed to…
