Barking and fearfulness of strangers?

The other day my Gutie (14 weeks old) decided to just start barking at strangers and when people approached he gets fearful and hides behind me. He wasn't like this before! He used to bound up to strangers for pets and kisses! He is very well socialized around people and other dogs. To my knowledge he hasn't had any bad experiences with people at all that would lead to this. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't want it to lead to more fearfulness or aggression later! :(

Potty training/crate training tips?

Gutie is nearing the 15 week mark and he's doing well with his potty training; he is still a baby so accidents are ok. He needs to go out every 1.5/2hrs or he'll potty in the house, is that normal at his age? I crate him at night and he holds it the whole night (bedtime at 8:30, no water after 7pm except for an ice cube or two, potties before bed). I've been told that more crate training will help his bladder control, but I'm not sure how exactly to go about that? I put him in there for naps… Continue

Weight Normal?

Hi fellow corgi lovers! Gutie is almost fourteen weeks old now (I can't believe it) and he's already 15 pounds! Is that normal? The vet said he's in great condition but after reading others' posts about corgi weight I feel as though he's a monster!

Georgia Renaissance Festival Corgis

Thanks to Sarah Bradley for suggesting we attend the Georgia Renaissance Festival during "dog weekend" - I think there were about 10-12 Corgis present, some dressed up, some "au naturelle" - everyone had a good time!  Lots of attention, people wanting to take pictures and pet our dogs.  Bogart was wiped out when we got home from all the sights, sounds and attention!  Here are some photos of Bogart, and also his friends Archie (the Knight) and Vicca (the Princess) with Sarah Bradley - their…

Duck: Not Fazed by Corgi

Welp, we have a pet duck in the backyard. Don't have a good photo of her yet -- it was storming last night when she was huddled on the nest Ruby found. But it looks like dogs chasing, humans throwing beach balls, and hoses squirting have exactly zero effect on the nesting instinct of the lady mallard.…

Re homing Corgis

I have the sad task of finding a home for 2 Corgis belonging to a dear friend.  I have a couple good leads thanks to the Lincoln (NE) Corgi Group.  It is a daunting task trying to make sure I do the right thing by them. I have no experience re homing pets so any experience any of you can share would be much appreciated.  I have lined up a good home for my baby should something happen to me, but Sandy hasn't...and she won't be coming home from the hospital this time.  Her daughter asked for…

Cat Problem Self-Resolves?

One can only hope! As I mentioned the other day, after my honored neighbor (winsomely known as Other Daughter) found a dead Maine Coon Cat behind our houses and concluded one of the coyotes had done it in, she was found trailing her cat up and down the alley.

This morning a new handyman came by to give me some estimates for several small jobs that need to be done. One of the things I hoped he might do is…

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a question I had...

So my boyfriend and I are getting a corgi from a breeder near us and originally we wanted a red and white corgi but the male we wanted is no longer available to breed so she asked us for a list of male and female pairings we would like...so we gave her exactly that and one of the pair we chose she recently had them bred and the momma should be due within a month from the 25th of last month. Now what I was wondering is if anyone could help me figure out what color our boy will turn out to…

Dog Day on Campus

File this under the Best.Day.Ever! Sully and I received an Evite to attend a doggie de-stress session for students during finals week at Wheaton College. I take classes there so Sully knows the campus. The college had set up a penned in area (like a dog park) where town residents and professors could bring their dogs so the students could take a break from studying to pat, cuddle and play with the dogs for a couple of hours. There are no dog parks in this town or any other town around that I…

DM

12-yr-old-Alie's having DM (degenerative myelopathy), can hardly lift up her left back leg well. She sill walks and sometimes looks normal but it's getting worse as I see. Thinking of buying a stroller, just take her outside to do her business. She's not that active like other corgis so she might not like WHEELCHAIR. I appreciate if anyone could suggest me anything or share anything w me.... She's been in my life for 12 yrs.

the story of how i got my dog

Fossil was a rescue puppy from texas, well, at least her pregnant mother was. I stumbled across an adoption event hosted by 4paws4life while seaching corgi puppies in my local area. They are a non-profit organization that apparently takes good looking animals from high kill shelters around the four corner states and sells them at petcos in nice areas.

They were advertising corgi mix pups for the next day at a local event so i filled out my application online and…

Ruby Comes to...uhm...Call...

But whose call?

This afternoon the human had quite the little scare. I'd noticed a potted plant in the front courtyard was fricasseeing in the heat, and so I walked into the garage and dug out a couple of strange little glass watering gadgets that came my way some years ago. You fill up these globe things with water and poke the end in the ground; supposedly…

Corgwyn invade the Renaissance Faire

This past weekend we took Sidney, Connie and Copper to our local Renaissance Faire. The folks who participate (they camp out and dress up in costume) just love corgis. We were greeted with cheers of "Corgi!" and everyone wanted to pet the short ones.

The Faire is held at a beautiful park in San Diego county…

Coyote Resurgent

Other Daughter surfaced outside the back gate this morning, setting off a corgi barking frenzy. She was walking her cat in the alley.

"Other Daughter" is one of the Perp's two adult daughters, one of whom lives across the street to the east of me and the other two houses down to the west. He calls one of the women his "Pretty Daughter" and the other his "Other…
