Well, it has been just under four months since Sidney underwent FHO surgery for his hip dysplasia.
It has been a tradition for me to take Sidney and whichever kids I could drag out of bed on a New Year's Day hike on one of our local trails. I was sure that Sidney would not be able to join us this year due to his surgery. But he has been healing so well…

Sidney had FHO surgery for hip dysplasia three months ago. The vet said he'd be good to play at the dog park after three months, so today we met up with some corgi friends at San Elijo Hills dog park. I'd taken him to the dog park before today, but kept him from full-out running and playing.
Sidney is the corgi with the tail, and his surgery was on his left hind leg. The fur has grown back pretty well and he's not limping anymore. Could you even tell he'd had…

We had our San Diego COrgi Meetup "HOwl-O-Ween" party today. It was a beautiful fall day out at the park, For most of the time I kept Sidney on-leash so he wouldn't run or get caught up in rough-and-tumble play, but he still had a wonderful time.
For SId's costume, I made him up to be the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile. I put some of his corgi friends in the "windows" and a "flat tire" sign at his bum leg.…

Today Sidney went back to the Surgical Specialty hospital for his one month checkup. Despite his having a rough day last Thursday, he was in good spirits and moving pretty well today. I had been getting discouraged because he was just not wanting to use the leg, but in the last couple days it's like he turned a corner. He's started standing on all fours and taking a few "normal" steps as he moves around.
Today, Sidney actually let the vet manipulate his leg! Doc said he could…

Today it has been three weeks since Sidney had the Femoral Head Ostectomy surgery to ease the pain from hip dysplasia. He's been ok'd to start taking short walks and take water therapy sessions.
We are very lucky to have a hydrotherapy location about 10 minutes from home. It is called the Total Dog Canine Swim and Fitness Center. The owner and trainer, Natalie, is an RVT with 30 years experience. She was so good with SIdney, I can't tell you how happy…

Today we took Sidney back to Veterinary Surgical Specialists in Kearney Mesa for his 2-week post surgery appointment and to have his sutures taken out.
His fur is already growing back, so it was a bit of a challenge for the tech to find all the sutures! Sidney was really good and didn't complain about that. However, when the vet tried to show us how to extend his leg back, Sidney reacted badly to that! I said…

It has now been a week since we brought Sidney home from his Femoral Head Ostectomy surgery for hip dysplasia.
He's been a very good patient. He's confined to a pen in the living room although we take him outside several times a day to go potty, and he's got to wear that awful collar to keep him from bothering his incision. Rather than the e-collar, we use a pro-collar. It looks like an inflated blue toilet seat, but it seems to be much more comfortable and easier to move around…

Today Sidney is having his FHO surgery to relieve the pain from his luxated hip joint caused by hip dysplasia. It was a tearful goodbye this morning, but I know he is in excellent hands. They will call me later this afternoon, and I should be able to bring him home tomorrow.
Thank you all for your messages of encouragement, well wishes and prayers. It really means a lot to me :)
***UPDATE***
Just got a call from the vet. Sidney is already done and is…

We just got back from the vet, and it's not good. I posted a discussion about how last night, in mid-stride, Sidney suddenly yelped in pain and would not bear weight on his hind left leg. Our vet took xrays and he has very severe hip dysplasia. His femur on the left side is completely out of what little hip socket he has.
Right now he's on Rimadyl for pain, and he's to be getting glucosamine to help build cartilage. He's acting normal and happy, but won't put weight on the bad hip.…

Sidney and I are members of the San Diego Corgi Meetup group, which has huge meetups once a month at different locations around our county. The August meetup was at Balboa Park, in downtown San Diego. It's a huge, beautiful historic park full of museums, gardens, bridges, ponds and even the "World Famous San Diego Zoo".
This was our first visit to the Balboa Park dog park. I let Sidney off leash once we were inside the gate, and I wanted to see how far the park went (I could not see…

I've been searching Craigslist for my girls' college textbooks and one particular book caught my eye.
I wish one of my girls would take this class so I'd have an excuse to buy the book. How cute is that cover?
