Emmy's Weekend!

Emmy had a fantastic weekend. On Thursday we went to the dog park to play with friends. Emmy didn't care too much for the small dog area, so we went to play with the big dogs and Emmy fit right in. She is very polite and submissive while also being playful so it worked out. Toward the end of our time there she kept laying down and her mom was scared she would get stepped on so we went back to the little dog area where she played with a Chihuahua and a Pug until it was time to go home. That…

World Dog Show - Paris 2011

Just came home from the World Dog Show in Paris. What an amazing experience! The last time I went to a dog show, it was in an exposition hall back in Hawaii, in the 90s. Needless to say, this show was bigger by several orders of magnitude.

It was inspiring to see not just beautiful animals, but the people who loved and cherished them so very much. You could just feel the hopeful and happy energy buzzing throughout the place. And what a huge place it was. By the end, my legs…

The Perfect Chair.....for Goldy

A few years ago I had some insane back issues and one of the things my doctor recommended was a zero gravity chair.  I shopped around and found "The Perfect Chair" - I cringed at the price $1200 for a CHAIR?!?!?!  That's insane!!!

But of course, one more bad night and I ended up back at the "Healthy Back Store" buying the damn thing.

Goldy has since decided that the perfect chair is the perfect place to relax…

Corgi Pet Insurance Recommendations?

Hi,

I have a corgi puppy that is about to turn a year old and he is also my first dog.

I'm thinking about getting pet health insurance for him but am not sure how to start or which one to take. Since when I googled it there were so many options I got a little overwhelmed.

Plus, I have been told my some that it is not necessary for pet insurance until they are much older, but am not really sure what to do here.

Anyone have advice for me please?

How to pick out dog treats

I bet I am not the only Corgi parent that carefully checks where dog treats are made?  We went to Costco the other day and a free sample of this Cod dog treat that is supposed to help with shedding was being given out.  I asked where is it made, the worker kind of looked at me somewhat strange.  I passed because this treat is made in China. Chloe gets Candidae, no table scraps. When I purchase treats or look into them I check where they are made because melamie in pet food caused so many… Continue

Doggie day care, Short term Boarding, Blood Platelets, & Prayer Needed! Houston, TX (Not necessarily in that order.)

I need some help and or good advice.  My older Brother (Edgar Marsh) has been undergoing leukemia treatment at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Tx for a little over a year now.   Two months ago he was accepted into the Stem Cell Transplant Program and is requiring a constant supply Blood Platelets as his body is not producing them.  Tammey, my oldest Brother Eddie, and I have been making the trip from Arlington (Dallas/Fort Worth area) to Houston to Donate twice a week.  We have to…

Hospital may not allow Daxter to become a therapy dog because he's fed raw.......

I don't even know where to begin with this..........okay, so I've been waiting since last October for my application to be approved so that I can take the next step towards Daxter become a therapy dog. He comes with me to work at least 2-3 times a week and is basically known as "the front-door greeter". He's always been extremely friendly and outgoing and absolutely LOVES people, so becoming a therapy dog was an easy decision for me to make. I've gone through all the processes and filled out…

What looks to be a pure breed sheltie found wandering in traffic....

I know this isn't about corgis but....it is about a short dog....I found a sheltie today wandering through traffic, stopped my car, she came right over and I pulled her in. I went to every nearby house, no one knew of her. I left a message with the humane society and gave her a bath and a brush. I probably won't be able to keep her, but for now I'll hold on to her. Hopefully I can find the owners; if she wasn't dumped, she had a collar with no tags.

Happy First Barkday to Søren!!!

Søren was born on February 6, 2010.  I picked him up 9 weeks later, and my whole life was changed.  Søren's my first corgi and my first dog, but he's been very patient with me.  He was the only thing that kept me sane when I was bedridden with a herniated disc!  He's gotten to be a very big boy, but he still wants to sit in my lap.  He's the best!

Søren got a new big boy dog bed for his barkday.  Tomorrow, he will see some of his pals at the dog park and eat his special…

LED light for your dog's collar

Hi I live part time in the city and part time in the country. At the house in the country there is a lot of brush and mesquite bushes and trees. The house is on about 1.5 acres. Only a small area is fenced in. I have four dogs and they love the freedom to be out and to wander. My corgi Zeppelin has developed an attitude about coming back as soon as I call him. I just got him a LED collar light which clips right onto his collar. There are several different positions the lights can be in. They… Continue

At my wits end...okay it's not that bad but...

We moved into the new house in June. The house came with a dog door that is a bit big and high for corgis. The dog that was here before was a husky.

In June I worked with Bear and Goldy to go through the door - I followed all kinds of training advice. They would go right through it when the flap was up, but put the flap down and no go.

I understood their fear, the door is a bit high for them and they literally have to jump through it and I'm sure…

Chubby Pup

Hi. My 2 year old Corgi, LaVerne got injured and she had to have surgery on her shoulder. She wasnt svelte before the injury but now she has been on restricted activity,( only leash walked outside to go to the bathroom,) and she has gotten quite chunky. She is a little over 33 lbs! The Vet put her on Hills Prescription diet rd, but she had been throwing up and I suspect the food isnt agreeing with her. Does anyone have suggestions for a healthy diet dry kibble diet for her to go on? I know her… Continue

Andy's New Forever Home

For those of you who have lost a cherised pet know the anguish, hurt and empty feeling that's left behind. I lost my Daisy on 8-13th of this year and I still cry for her. I only had her for 6 months but it seemed like forever.

On 10-30, my brother, George, received a call from his niece, Robin, up in Santa Barbara; about 2 1/2 hours North of us. She walks her dog on a path near the Marina and has made wonderful pet friends…

UPDATE - Sophie's Weight Loss Program

Here is an update on Sophie's weight reduction program. As of this morning, Saturday October 9, 2010 she weighed in at 31.0. She is down .7 of a pound and she looks better all the time. I continue with the same program - lite dog food, frozen green beans finely chopped and a spoonful of canned pumpkin. She gets a few light treats during the day and a plain organic brown rice cake for her bedtime snack. I am so pleased with her progress! Adding photo taken yesterday and last night.…

Are you supposed to tip your dog walker?
