Arts & Crafts: Fabric Stores are fun

...and so are mothers. My husband and I stopped at the fabric store as I had some projects in mind. My mom then came over, bringing a sewing machine, my sister, & their dog, Capri. And this is what we made!

I bought some fleece type fabric of 2 sorts (one I have not used yet and will be for a future bed) and a large pillow form that was 50% off. I then decided I wanted 2 textures and got a faux fur sort of fabric, that matched Pooka's… Continue

More Swollen Face Cataloging

Here's Pooka last night at around 1AM (she looks miserable cuz I just woke her up and she's REALLY drowsy). It has moved to the other side of her face.

I gave her another half of a Benadryl and put her in her crate for the night.

At around 4AM, I woke up to continue studying for my test. She looked about the same, and though I opened the crate, she stayed in there (even after I left for school at 8:45). BUT! by 6AM, when I checked on… Continue

Now it looks like this

=( =( =(

its been 2.5 hours since I last saw her.

I gave her the other half of the Benadryl. She still acts fine. I have a big test tomorrow I have to study for.

My friend says I worry too much and that dogs have lived for 100s of years without people. [sigh]

UPDATE: Its about 4 hours later and she looks back to normal…

Well DARN IT! (swollen face, HALP!)

I have all these blog posts I want to write, about her fish pillow, and how I sprayed the yard for fleas/ants and had to take her to my mom's house, but now I have to write about this.

Pooka woke up this morning with a swollen eye, and I felt around and her cheek was swollen too. I checked her teeth for an infection and saw nothing. I gave her half a benadryl, she was fine, she ate all her food, and I asked my husband to stay home with her. He… Continue

Antler Chews - don't step on'm!

So I was reading about how antler chews are a good alternative to meaty bones on the forum, or somewhere, and was just like, hmm, sounds good to me. My dad is a hunter and has been all my life. Most of my friends dad's are hunters. So when I bring this up to them, they're just like "huh, makes sense, I'll give one to my dog".

Cuz the truth of the matter is, there is no shortage of antlers where I come from. White-tail hunting is very common… Continue

Toy ICU

I noticed Pooka's toys were coming apart at the stitching (especially since she loves to grab an easy to chomp leg during tug-of-war) and the stuffin was sticking out. Appreciative after seeing so many images of dogs surrounded by the guts of their victims, that Pooka didn't enjoy pulling out stuffing, I decided to try to fend off the habit as long as possible. So, it was time for Stuffed Animal SURGERY!

I grabbed my sewing kit and… Continue

Training Satisfaction: A Real Treat!

It's so great when I've been trying to teach Pooka a trick for a few days and then suddenly, she's doing it without me asking (usually cuz I'm asking her to Roll Over and she hates that), and actually responding to the words without the hand motion.

Most recently its been "Do-Si-Do" which means spin around. My first experience with training dogs was on the Nintendo DS, playing Nintendogs, with my TriColor corgi pup named Pumkin, my shiba inu named Gypsy, and my… Continue

Water Bed for a Hot Corgi?

Hi guys, Pooka has yet to encounter a south Texas summer and I'm worried about her getting too hot (at least she'll probably calm down and not want to play fetch as much =P) I've been wanting to make my own dog bed for her because they're so expensive and none have really stricken me in their fabric choice. She really liked just this big pillow her friend Aurora had, so I figure that would be simple enough. I can even make it to have a cover for easy washing.

In looking up beds, I… Continue

Corgis in Web Comics

They look so cute when illustrated!!

I have 3 webcomics to show y'all (two are by the same person)

Girly is a weird adventure comic (with occasional mature content) featuring a girl and her "sidekick". There is a corgi who wears glasses who lives in their town. He is very fast!…

That Morning Scratch

...sometimes its just too much! This morning Pooka decided to wake up 45 minutes before us and kept scratching at her neck, causing her collar to spin around, her two tags clanking together unbareably. A din! A cacophony! If she wasn't scratching her neck, she's scratching her belly, or chewing on her haunches.

This isn't an abnormal thing. EVERY morning, when I let her out of the crate, as she follows me to the door to go out, she pauses every few feet to scratch. I open the door,… Continue

"You Didn't Abandon Me Afterall!"

We were driving back from Colorado, leaving Friday at 7AM, to arrive back in San Antonio at 11PM after being gone for SIX DAYS) Luckily my sister was driving from College Station to SA at around 4PM, so she was able to pick up Pooka from my grandmother's house. Katie kind've looks like me and she said when she got there, Pooka was all crated up and barking at her incessantly (excited) and whined the whole car ride.

When we finally got there, I did not recognize the dog jumping over… Continue

Garage Sale Find (if you need a good laugh)

hehe, please don't lynch me for this:

"Pooka's gone LOCO"

"HypnoCorgi, bow down!"

hehehehe, I found these at a garage sale. Best quarter I ever spent ^_^. She actually doesn't mind them too much, as long as I have them on right (not in her eye) and its been less than 30 seconds.

But THIS one:

she found some ear muffs on the ground earlier (we're going on a ski… Continue

My Bags are Packed, I'm Ready to Go....

... not really. My family and I are going on a ski trip to Colorado for a week (spring break!) but I can't get excited because I know I'll be missing Pooka (and I really really wanted to take her so she could play in snow). We went on a weekend trip to visit my college roommate in Wisconsin 2 weeks ago, and I was really missing her hard by the end of it. My mom said on the last day Pooka too was acting kind've mopey and getting excited to see my sister (who looks like me) even though she had… Continue

Treat Trepidation

I may be a strange sort. I looove the sound of my puppies whining. It is just so cute! Everyone else can't believe how sad it is. How she sounds like she's dieing if she's secluded to a room or crate. But as her mother, I know there is nothing wrong and she is just being a baby, so I'm able to see through to how cute she sounds. I have a 15 minute video (mostly a sound recording, I wasn't worried about where the camera was pointing) from when Pooka was first crate training and so I left the… Continue
