Well the move went pretty successful. Callie was really scared and worked up the first few days. She would bark at people walking past or at little noises after the first 2 days. Now she is doing great and still does bark when she gets excited that I came home (I do leave often while I'm getting ready for school and volunteering at a local church) But she is pretty good about being quiet when I tell her too. She absolutely loves going on walks and meeting the neighbor doggies (since I am living…

Today I received Riley's ashes and they came in a beautiful box and a velvet bag that said "One day we shall meet again over the rainbow bridge"I thought I was doing better but this is hard, at least he is still with me in a way. I dedicated a shelf to him in my cabinet that displays photos, his favorite toys, and of course..him.
It was neat though as I came home my parents called to say there was a rainbow in the sky..I thought that…

Hi, I have a tough decision and hope you can help. We have a family of four: Two senior citizens, and a single mother with a 5-yr old. The environment is not conducive to a lot of activity in the home due to the setup, other than going up and down stairs. Outside there are wild animals (we're in the country) and we care for many wild cats (they stay outdoors but we feed them on the back porch). We also own a business which is attached to the home (living quarters are upstairs). Strangers are in…

Bernie was excited to go to class the entire time I was packing my bag. She was excited the entire car ride there.
I don't know what I'm doing different or what is different about her but it is fantastic. She has speed, confidence, and is really paying attention to my handling signals. I ran my butt off tonight and broke in my cleats keeping up with her. We did a full standard course of 20 obstacles and a short 10 obstacle jumpers course with some distance work. Bernie was a little…

Xylitol Toxic and Fatal To Dogs
August 6, 2008 by wendtworth
By Sharon L. Peters, Special for USA TODAY
A sugar substitute found in a variety of sugar-free and dietetic cookies, mints and chewing gum is proving highly toxic, even fatal, to snack-snatching dogs.
Xylitol, popular in Europe for decades but a relative newcomer to the U.S. alternative-sweeteners market, can be “very, very serious” to dogs when ingested, says Dana Farbman, spokeswoman for the Animal Poison…

Last night I ran to Petco to get Lances dog food as very few places around me sell his food. I decided it would be
a good idea to bring Lance with for some fun! Wow did he have fun, all those smells going into Petco and Petsmart he barely noticed all the people around....that is not like Lance at all! I guess the doggie smells were more interesting at
the time. We were in and out of Petco as we were just there to get his food, not to many dogs there either which
is the norm and I…

While I still haven't been able to pick up Dr. Gonzo (he's still a baby) I am so thankful to have a breeder that's nice enough to update with photos each week! Today I was pleasantly suprised to see the little guy has an adorable little spot on his right side--it looks like a big ol' freckle! I adore unique markings...I remember a friend of mine had adopted a corgi mix a few years ago with markings on his back that resembled a bunny--with his tail as the bunny tail! Ah, I am amused by these…

I just wanted to put this picture in a blog because I think it is so cute. I've seen plenty of corgis stick their legs out behind, but never so that the toes are touching!

Well, it wasn't the typical "Storm Watch" we get here in Southern CA...(hahaha) but Saturday night we got our first taste of rain...it's been a LONG TIME since I've seen it, let me tell you!! **Whenever there is a probable small storm coming, all the news stations go on "Storm Watch"...we could get 1 inch of rain and they make it seem like it's a hurricaine!!**
But, I was excited to see Abby get so confused with it...She kept looking around for a hose or something...then started to try to…

Yesterday was one of those busy days at the church for Matt and myself. We were getting ready for a generational event that Shaun Alexander was speaking at and that was hugely successful. However we were gone most of the day back and forth to let Owen out and check on him. At one point I came home, let him out and went to the Y for a quick work out. I came home, showered, changed, and got ready for the event and ran over with about 5 minutes to spare! Well I'm betting I didn't do something…

These two little girls were in heaven Saturday. You'd have thought they wandered into a place equivalent to Miley Cyrus' sold out Hannah Montana show the way they were acting.
Notice Bernie is the one trying to face meld with the girls. I had to double check the photo to make sure that was her and it was. I think this is so cute.

Today we made a first step to turning Charlie into a Great Hiking Corgi, he-he. We went hiking! The hike was about 3 miles long, and it took us a little more then a hour. It was quite steeply path along Potomac. I was surprised how easy it was for Charlie to climb up and down the rocks. Sometimes I thought he would not make it. But he was just great!
So, it's possible even with the short legs :). I am very excited. We started our training in order to do a day hike in Shenandoah Mountains,…

I knew that corgi's were the smartest dogs :D But this weekend I got to witness just how their little brains can really figure things out. We were up at my grandmother's house in Wallowa and had the dirty wet dogs shut into the laundry room until they dried off. The door on one end of this room is one of those bifold closet style doors that folds into the room. KC decided that she was tired of being locked up like a dog and wanted out....after careful consideration she figured out that if she…

i read something on here a couple of days ago that just really urked me. now i realize that everyone is entitled to thier own opinions and what not and a lot of people will probably not agree with me but i have to say something.
i ran across a blog the other day and a woman was talking about an incident where her corgi was attacked by a pitbull. now it is unfortunte that something like that happened to her and thankkfully her dog was ok. however not all pitbulls are killing machines as she…

How different each new puppy is.
I also seem to have forgotten that everything chewable must be lifted out of mouth range and put somewhere else out of said mouth range, otherwise, you're in for some surprises. Like, the sort of surprises when the puppy comes dragging your underwear out from the dirty clothes to hand it off to a guest, or where it tears apart a feather-stuffed futon in an effort to bury a bone for later.
(Nah, he hasn't done that yet. I have to at least…

Yes guys your support really helps! I feel So much happier when I come on here and chat with everyone! It is nice to now others have shared this pain and can help talk about it. I have been reading books on pet loss and watching old videos, looking at old photos, and hugging my cats. So I am doing ok. My dad is babysitting the neighbors dogs right now so that is helping him. We still tear up when we talk about him because he is missed! But We…

It's been quite a long time since my last blog post. Risa is 6 months now and we did lots of funny stuff in the last
month. We visited a puppy class, but I wasn't satisfied by the methods used there. It was our first and last visit there. I decided not to spend my Risa's puppyhood on training just obedience and we're working on some funny tricks right…

So Remy has been doing really well with his potty training, walking, getting to know his surroundings, & everything, but one thing he has a problem with is the excessive nipping & biting. He's a little 12-week old puppy so of course he's going to be teething & wanting to chew on
everything. I can sympathize for the poor little boy. ): I've been trying to use a suggested method of saying "OW!" in a high-pitched tone just like a dog & ignoring him until he's calm. It's been…

Today is Responsible Dog Owner's Day, and our training school had a big event at their facility. One of the things they offered was a test to certify your dog as a Canine Good Citizen. It was a really long test, about one hour. My daughter decided to put Sidney into the test, even though at the young age of 15 months we were not sure if he was ready.
The good news is, he passed! He received a certificate from the AKC and a tag to wear on his collar with his name tag and license. I…
