On Thursday we made the five hour plus trip from our place to the foster home of Gweondolyn. Gwendolyn is a one year old Corgi with Juvinile Cataracts. While she is not completely blind, her vision is severly limited. She has lived in an outdoor kennel her entire life and has never been potty trained and has had limited socialization with people. She recieved good care at her foster home, but she has a long way to go. In addition to her cataracts her eyes are especially small. She has fairly…

Poor Chloe, it is just too hot for a walk or dog park at 108 degrees. I try to walk her before 10 a.m. even in the evening it is very warm. What do others do? I do play indoor fetch.

We were walking Jack in the park today. He was leashed, on his regular 6-foot lead, and he was walking nicely on a loose leash. We were near an access road and a food concession stand, and there was a family standing around with three dogs; the apparent father with a pug and another small dog, mom, and a few kids. One of the kids was a girl who looked about 10, and she had a big bear of a black dog on a leash; he probably went about 65 pounds.
We were walking past them, but not close…

Hello all! :D
Mister Jack and I had a blast at the dog show here in Houston yesterday. We paid a visit to the AKC booth, and inquired about printing a pedigree for Jack. Unfortunately, we have no papers on him! The breeder never sent them to us. We've tried to contact her, but always an answering machine picked up. I'm going to keep trying though. :3
Anyway, they asked if he had a registered name. Of course, he does not. I never really thought about giving him one, but I…

There's been a lot of discussion lately about how much a corgi should weigh.
Now, within any breed, there's going to be some variation among individuals as to what that particular dog should weigh and be healthy.
However, I find most dogs that their owners feel are a "good weight," and often, their vet agrees, is usually overweight. This is particularly dangerous in a breed like the corgi, which are prone to all sorts of joint and back problems because they are a dwarf…

Doc is our two year old Corgi. He is pembroke breed. Over this summer, and especially this weekend, he is getting some almost bleached spots in his fur. It is on the tips of his ears and now he had some on his face. He looks like he feels fine and is active etc. I just wanted to see if anyone has seen the same in their dog before we call the vet in the AM.

Its Thrusday afternoon. Sky is skipping through the house... Suddenly, he goes missing! I get worried thinking that maybe somone snuck into my house in the past 10 minutes and got him out and puppy-napped him! I check all his haunting grounds: the closet, under the green chair, behind the toilet, beneath the bed, all Sky free. I pull out dog food and pour some in his bowl and continue calling him. Nothing.
FINALLY, I go into the laundry room and there he is! Behind the washing…

Perhaps not what you think.
Here's a not-so-chubby Jackpot:
When Jack was one, we had him for his checkup and we put him on the scales and he weighed in at a whopping 35 pounds. My husband and I kept looking at each other, saying "Is he fat? He doesn't look fat. But 35 pounds for a Corgi... that sounds fat!" Ah, but the vet assured us he was not fat. He's just big-boned! LOL
Anyway, we went back in April for…

On Tuesday Emma woke us up at 6 am (which she never does) by whining and crying. I got up and let her outside and she had liquid diarreah. I gave her a little bit of Pepto Bismal once every hour an half until she stopped having to go every half hour. The next morning she threw up twice in the living. it was all foamy.I waited an hour and she didn't do it again but I had to go to work for a few hours. When I got home my boyfriend told me she had thrown up again. That night she got worse. She was…

Starbuck is 14 and a half weeks old, and she is the light of my life.
We took her yesterday to get her third puppy shots and rabies. She's a huge puppy at 10.6! Well, maybe she's not huge, but even though we've only had her for 6 weeks, we find ourselves talking about "when she was little." When we brought her home from the breeder, she was a whole 5.6... hence the "when she was little." She was great at the vet. She didn't cry at all. I gave her her treats, so no vomiting on the way…

Scientists are hot on the trail!
Article here!
There's a lot of specifics in the article that don't make much sense to me as a layperson, but what I got out of it was that short legged dogs began occuring pretty early after the dog became a dog and not a wolf.

Hey everyone! I brought Faye home yesterday and she is awesome. We love her so much. She was so good last night, after putting her to bed I brought her outside once at about 4am and she peed right away. What a smart little girl! Here's a clip from the loooong ride home. She got so sick and was really not doing well at first but then she relaxed and wound up sleeping most of the rest of the ride. The clip is from right before she cuddled up in my lap and passed out…

I have only had Wrig about a month and in that time, he has been almost perfect. I love him to death, but he is proving to be very stubborn when it comes to training. He was housetrained the second day we had him and has no food aggression or any other serious problems. The shelter said he is about a year old and he is nutered.
The major dilema is excessive barking. During the day, when he is with me alone, he sleeps, follows me around and sometimes chases the cat. We go for a long…

We're moved into the new place. It's not put together, and the old place still needs cleaning. There is so much more room in the new apartment! We never know where Eddy is. Upon moving in, Eddy has developed some new and undesirable habits. I expected some naughtiness to arise because we neutered him and moved in the same week. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.
He loves to chew on his new roomate's stuff - my best friend, whom Eddy never lived with. Sad for…

KIng came into our lives 11 yrs ago and wow, what a ride it's been. He was just 3 months old and full of puppy love. You know what I mean. Puppy love here, puppy love there. Corgi's don't just live with you, they let you live with them. Everytime I think I've seen it all, he comes up with something new.
I'm new at this, so bear with me until I find my footing. King tells me he will help me.

I just got done walking Billy and he didn't pick up a single thing off the sidewalk! Not even a leaf! :D I think I getting some where with him. I really think my boyfriend lets him get away with anything when they walk.
I had my sister walking her boyfriend's dog so we were walking really fast. He's a lab that likes to jog with them. Billy only went in front of me once at the beginning of the walk, keeping me from going forward. I think it was him getting too excited, but after I stopped…
