Funny looking squirrel

Cheez-it had his second to last vet appointment today. Everything went well and she said that his inguinal hernia is looking like it has healed up on it's own. I was told that could happen and in his case it probably would. He got some shots (he hates them) and some new 10+ lbs advantage (which he needs). I keep finding random fleas on him once a day or so, but I have bathed him alot in the past month and I only notice a flea when he comes inside. I give him a good check-over through all his… Continue

Diarrhea came back, I'm super-worried

Yesterday, after 5 days of runs and feeding chicken+rice, Risa had NORMAL stool. Maybe it sounds like I'm crazy, but I was totally happy. The little poop in the garden made me relaxed again. We visited the vet in the afternoon to tell him the news and he checked Risa quickly, saying he will be fine. Today morning I gave Risa his rice and waited for his poopy, but it was not so solid again and followed by yellow-like diarrhea. I'm frustrated. After the week of runs he's slowly losing weight and… Continue

Lily and her eating.......an ongoing experience!

Okay, so Lily is still having issues eating. I am anxious about this simply because I worry about her. Read the other discussion and tried the banana idea, she loved it! Could it be the Science Diet food? Maybe she does not like the taste? Perhaps she wants moist food every so often? Am definitely open to any suggestions from those of you out there who read the blogs! Have considered changing her food, but do not know anything about good quality dog food, except of course the vet recommends… Continue

Scary Experience

I thought I'd write a blog post about what happened with our corgi, Roscoe, last Friday.

First I have to say that Roscoe has never chewed on anything that isn't his to chew on. Somehow he knows what belongs to him and what he's allowed to chew. An example: He has never chewed on a throw pillow anywhere in our house. Then one day my mom brought him a little pillow with doggies embroidered on it, in a little gift bag that had his name on it. So I took it out and showed it to him, you… Continue

Bad Reaction....

Well, my little girl just had her latest round of shots. She got her final distemper shot of the year, and I was planning on get here Lyme shot. However, my vet told me that in my area that Lyptospirosis (sp?) is more prevelent, and if I plan on going anywhere more rural that I could always get Luna vaccinated later. So, I went with the Lypto shot and about two and half hours later, after having eaten and played quite a bit, my little girls nose swelled up to about the size of a tennis ball.… Continue

It's thundering...

It is thundering and raining and I am NOT happy! I HATE the thunder-I don't know why, but it scares me. I hid under the bed for awhile, but now I am snuggled between mommy's feet in my "cave" (under the computer desk) slobbering and shaking. Oh, I hate the thunder! Make it stop!

Enjoy every day with your dog, everything can happen

So I was solving my Risa's diarrhea, looking for poops in the garden, cooking him rice and chicken, giving him pills twice a day. I was very worried, he's too young for 5-days-long runs. I was stressed, couldn't even concentrate at work. And then came my boyfriend, who's got his German shepherd living at his parents' house. Rina, the shepherd, had a gastric dilatation - volvulus. She probably had her stomach twisted from 9 pm till morning, it's a miracle that she survived and got a surgery at 9… Continue

Infection!

Zephyr's spay incision got infected. According to the vet it is "normal" for her breed to get infections because they're such an active dog. I certainly wasn't expecting it! It didn't start until about a week ago, three-ish weeks after her surgery. It got REALLY swollen and very fluid filled, but not draining. I was worried, so I had my boyfriend take her to the vet at the first possible moment. But like I said the vet just said it was normal and sent him away (thank god they didn't charge me… Continue

Things I've Learned: A Top 10 List

Well it's already been too long since my last post, but Suzy and I have been busy learning things from each other for the past month, including the following top 10 list:

10. Suzy does not potty outside when it rains... she will however jump into the tub and go (I did not teach her this), go directly in front of my toilet, or directly in front of Dusty's litter pan. Sometimes I don't know if I should be pleased that she's smart enough to know the general area that seem appropriate or… Continue

Rattlesnake Vaccine for Dogs?

hello all! i just want to thank everyone that helped convince me to FINALLY neuter my corgi. He seems to be recovering well and looks much happier. anyway, i live in wonderful prescott arizona. very very dry climate and tons of rocks. its a small city and not very developed where i live. pa'ani and i love to go on a trail out by my house but recently we came across a snake. i am VERY worried that, as curious as corgis are, pa'ani will get bit. i was asking around and there is actually a vaccine… Continue

San Francisco Trip

So I have a trip to San Francisco planned for August and the thought of leaving my new girl Leia is killing me already! I would LOVE to take her but I'm not sure for one if its a great idea and for two if its fair to our other dog who is just too large to take. We will only be gone 4 1/2 days but that seems like enough time to throw off any of the training we are working on. Maybe taking her would mess that up too? I don't know. I keep going back and forth on the idea.

New Family Member

Last Friday I took a little 4 hour drive to Holt Missouri to meet with a representative of Forever Friends Pet Rescue. I came home with a sad little female corgi, formerlly a puppy mill breeding dog. She had been in foster care since early January. They called her Blair, she is three years old and she has an incontinence issue--could explain why such a beautiful, sweet little girl wasn't taken home by someone in more than five months. She is potty… Continue

Hi Friends - I need leash advice.

George is great on the leash, but he does have a tendency to chew them and even after making him stop, his nylon leashes (double thickness too!) eventually get frayed and it's off to PetSmart we go for another $11.99 leash.

Bottom line: unless George plans on getting a job or winning the lottery, it's gotta stop.

We've discovered a wonderful solution : a simple 4 foot chain-link leash with nylon handle. He's happy as a clam on it and no more chewing.

Here's my… Continue

Diarrhea - nightmare for me, no problem for my corgi

Our little guy (finally decided - his name is Risa, pronounced like Reesha in our language) is having this problem for four days now. I switched to rice+chicken on Monday, but it doesn't seem to help. Today I found something looking like rice in his little non-solid poo. I'm not sure if it is really the rice I'm feeding him, or if these are the eggs of some worm. We're going to the vet today, hope he will help.

Interesting thing is, that I seem to be the only one to worry about the… Continue

Help with rude owners?

What do you do about dogs off leash at public parks? I take Lucy to our son's baseball games and many others bring their pets too - on leash. One family always lets their big dog off to run loose, hits it when it misbehaves, etc. This dog is scary to Lucy, won't leave her alone, and I would like to relax a bit and watch my son play in peace.

I also was at another park last week and there was a big dog loose without any owners in sight. I picked Lucy up because it was turning ugly,… Continue

Harness question-breaking hairs

Hi everyone

i was wondering if anyone knew of harnesses that fit corgis and doesnt break their hairs. I have recently been concerned by the amount of hair that has been broken by scout's harness. we usually just leave it on him because we take him out so frequently but you can see the harness lines when he isnt wearing it.

St. Pete meetup

I want to go so, so bad to the meet. I want to get out and meet new people, be around corgis, and have fun but there is a problem. I can't drive. T_T My mom works at night, and sleeps during the day. I have no friends, and on top of it all Ryan, my boyfriend, doesn't have a license.

I put that I might go, but it doesn't look possible to me now. I want to ask my mom if she could take me, but she is so stressed that I don't want to add another thing to her worries. Is there anyone who… Continue

First Month!!

Wow-- hard to believe it's been a full month since we got Blaze!

We are LOVING him... no regrets whatsoever getting this little pooch.

He seems to be housebroken already! He knows to either jump up and down in my line of sight or come up and BARK in my face and I will get the hint and take him outside. When he does that-- he pees/poos right away! He is one smart litle bugger.

No other approach has worked for us with stopping his nipping/biting except... *drum… Continue

How long is too long?

Hi everyone! I have another question for you...

I recently got a job that requires hours in the evening. Also, I have recentely broken up with my boyfriend and am now moving to a new apartment. My question is, how long can I leave Daisy in her crate while I'm gone? I do believe that she would be in from 2:15-7:45. Is this too long? She will be 6 months in a week. Any input, suggestions, or personal experiences would be helpful! I do think the landlord will be open to a pet walker, if… Continue
