the story of how i got my dog

Fossil was a rescue puppy from texas, well, at least her pregnant mother was. I stumbled across an adoption event hosted by 4paws4life while seaching corgi puppies in my local area. They are a non-profit organization that apparently takes good looking animals from high kill shelters around the four corner states and sells them at petcos in nice areas.

They were advertising corgi mix pups for the next day at a local event so i filled out my application online and…

Ruby Comes to...uhm...Call...

But whose call?

This afternoon the human had quite the little scare. I'd noticed a potted plant in the front courtyard was fricasseeing in the heat, and so I walked into the garage and dug out a couple of strange little glass watering gadgets that came my way some years ago. You fill up these globe things with water and poke the end in the ground; supposedly…

Corgwyn invade the Renaissance Faire

This past weekend we took Sidney, Connie and Copper to our local Renaissance Faire. The folks who participate (they camp out and dress up in costume) just love corgis. We were greeted with cheers of "Corgi!" and everyone wanted to pet the short ones.

The Faire is held at a beautiful park in San Diego county…

Coyote Resurgent

Other Daughter surfaced outside the back gate this morning, setting off a corgi barking frenzy. She was walking her cat in the alley.

"Other Daughter" is one of the Perp's two adult daughters, one of whom lives across the street to the east of me and the other two houses down to the west. He calls one of the women his "Pretty Daughter" and the other his "Other…

Our Precious Daughter

Today is Betty Boop's one year anniversary. She came to us a year ago and has enriched our lives immeasurably. We hope and pray that she has found love and contentment here with us old folks. She will turn 10 in a couple of months and we pray that the remaining years make up for the first 9 years of horror and indifference. We love you dearly Betty Boop. May we be worthy of your love as well.

Border Collies

Just a quick funny note. Since we live in a rural area we have all kinds of fowl, turkeys, geese, ducks, heron and such in the area. I live very close to a small rural campus where I also take classes so Sully and I are on campus often. I spend a lot of time trying to teach Sully not to try to herd my daughter's ducks and chickens and the water fowl in the pond on campus. I just found out the college hired a team of border collies to convince the ducks and geese to relocate to a pond across…

The Dog Food Jamboree

As anyone who's been paying attention knows, one of my strangest quirks is that I feed my dogs real food: cooked meat, starches, vegetables and fruits, unadulterated by anything that came from a lab bench. This has worked exceptionally well in the past and it continues to do so:

• Ruby and Cassie maintain their normal weight. Neither dog is overweight or underweight.

• Their…

Snoopy's story continues---A teaser...

Snoopy will be traveling to Texas soon. He's a dog with a past and I looked up that past when I first got him. His AKC name is Cadet's Snooping in the Dark.  I maintained contact with a lady who had some of his grand-dogs. I knew, we knew, that Winston was not long for this world many months ago & we know that at 13, Snoops is timing out as well. Although he's healthy as a horse right now, we know he'll leave sometime in the next few years. Anyhow, the lady with his offspring? Well....we…

Watson's Gotcha day

I can't believe it has been a year since we added Watson to our family. He has been a joy to live with. He is the happiest dog imaginable and very loving. As I continue with chemotherapy he is always good for a laugh or cuddle. I am hoping the doctors will announce soon that I am in remission. At that point I hope to have the energy to continue with his training. The only…

TICKS!

I went on a long hike through the woods with Sully this weekend. She took her monthly Nexgard treatment the day before and although we removed many ticks from her fur, none were attached and she remains tick free. Apparently the treatment is corgi successful because I took nothing and had to remove a tick embedded in my scalp this morning. I think it is going to be a tough season. By the way, there are still patches of snow out there but those little ass-hats are wide awake and ready to…

Ducks, Bees, and Dogs: NEVER throw anything away!

Welp, it turns out to have been a good thing that I hired my old landscaper Richard to build a little fence between the swimming pool and the back door (and the doggy door, conveniently).

Yesterday Ruby the Corgi Pup went into a corgi-baying frenzy in the back yard:

arfarfarfarfarfaROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Holy mackerel! Did one of the meth-heads hop over the back wall? Whaaaa?…

Ruby WooHOOO!

Hooorah! Ruby the Corgi Pup has got the idea about walking nicely on a lead. What a clever little dog she is!

The adventures in medical science -- nine months' worth -- put the eefus on my puppy-raising schemes. It was all I could do to resist having to return her to the breeder, much less walk her every day to get her properly leash-trained.

When she was pretty little, I realized that she did better with a harness than with a collar, and so when we've…

Another eye question

I just witnessed her 5th eye injury-she was chasing a rabbit, hit a pile of cement my neighbor dumped over here and won't move and flew over the fence.  I heard a yelp, not sure if it was her or the rabbit. She thought the rabbit was in the tree and kept circling the tree and barking over there.  These are the kind of neighbors who'd cause trouble if they caught her over there, so I finally got her back here and she was acting a little "off" and sure enough a couple hours later, her eye was…

Bombur and Thorin

The bunnies are here!!! They're called Netherland Dwarfs. Mom was very slow about the whole introducing thing, but once it happened, I was glued to them. Mom and Dad named them Bombur and Thorin from this movie called "The Hobbit". They come out to play all the time. They dispense these little round things that smell like grass. I tried one without mom looking and they're really good, but mom caught me one day and said I couldn't eat them. It's okay though, I still get to play with the…

Um...Bunny Brothers

Mom and dad keeps talking about things called bunnies. I don't know what they are, but they sound like fun. I wonder if they're big like me or small like those things I chase in the yard.. the ones with the big fluffy tail that climb up trees. With me utterly concerned and confused, mom and dad took me to the petsupermarket to see these so called fluff balls..... Oh my gosh the fluff balls are so cute. But not as cute as me. I wanted to play with them, but they were in these tall cages. I…

I Have A Father!!

So mom has been dating this really nice guy for 7 months now and he's amazing at belly rubs. He sneaks me table scraps but mom gets onto him. At least I'm not getting in trouble. He calls me his princess and tells me I'm pretty, gorgeous, and beautiful. He loves playing fetch too! Sometimes I don't go get the stick and he fetches it for me. Overall, he's an awesome dad. I'm glad mom finally found someone for me. And for her.

Arizona meet up?

Hi guys! I saw that there was a corgi meet up here in Az at the beginning of the year, does anyone know if there will be another one? I'd love for my little girl to meet more of her kind and get her more socialized!

Trip to the Beach

We went down to Cannon Beach. This was Teddy's first time out of state and first time at the beach. As soon as his paws hit the sand, he was in heaven. He had a great time and got all nice and dirty and sandy and muddy. We were joking that he was a tri because at one point his face just covered with wet sand.

I was really proud of him.…

Watson and I......the journey continues

We received good news recently, my daughter and her family are moving back to Michigan from Denver.   I am thrilled that they ( including 3 grandsons) will back in our town! While they wait for their movers to get here they are staying with us. The bonus is their dog , Belle, is willing to play with Watson and so are my grandsons. He is so very happy since Izzy continues to…
