We won the costume contest! I was so stoked! The lady handing out prizes said that anyone willing to dress up with their dogs (like I did) deserved to win, lol.
Sorry I didn't get anymore fun pictures of their costumes, there were so many dogs and my two were so excited, it was all I could do to hold onto the leash, much less a camera! The store hosting the party did take some pictures though, so if they put them up on their site, I'll be sure to post them here. Here are some…

I took Lyla, and only Lyla, on a walk tonight. I think that is the first time she has ever gone on a walk without big brother Sky. She was so incredibly good too! It sounds a little sad, but I had no idea she had such great leash manners because Sky is a little more hyper on walks (a little more hyper EVERYWHERE) and so when he pulls, which is getting less frequent than it used to be, it pulls her too since they are hooked together on a splitter. I was so proud of my baby girl!
On a…

I finally got brave and gave Sky and Lyla their first ever REAL bones yesterday. They absolutely loved them!! Here are some pictures of the excitement, lol.
Lyla got confined to her crate both for cleanliness reasons and because she got a little snarly whenever Sky would so much as look at her bone. She gets like that…

It has been raining heavily here ever since I got home from work (of course, sunny all day, and as soon as I leave work, torrential downpour). This is always fun with the dogs, of course, as it makes potty time a tad complicated. Sky doesn't mind quite as much, although he has something against having a bowel movement in the rain.. go figure. Lyla, on the other hand, tries to claw her way back through the door, even when I go out with her! This, of course, means that she comes in and goes right…

Thanks for all the encouraging comments I got earlier this week when I was deciding whether or not to add another member to what is quickly becoming a herd of dogs! While it was very nice of the breeder to think of me and offer me a chance at a beautiful show prospect, in order to get such an expensive puppy on such short notice (1 month) I would have had to use my entire emergency budget. Sky reminded me this week why I couldn't do that.
While I was out in the back playing Frisbee…

I've been looking into getting another puppy in the distant future (2-5 yrs). This time I wanted a show quality Aussie that I could show and hopefully use for breeding eventually. After looking through several breeders, I contacted one in New Mexico and got a chance to talk to her today. While on the phone she said she had the perfect puppy for what I wanted. She hasn't sold her yet because if I don't take her, she is going to keep her and breed her when she's old enough. I looked at her…

I let the dogs out to play when I got home from work today and thought I'd leave them out for the better part of the afternoon to just wrestle and run since it was such a nice day out. About 20 min after I let them out I heard a lot of noise. I went outside to see what was going on and the closer I got to the door, the more I could hear high-pitched crying and squealing. My first thought was "uh-oh!" I thought maybe they had gotten into a fight and one of them was getting hurt or another dog…

After a lot of research on doggy allergies and itchy dogs I came across an article about yeast infection in animals' systems (here if you are interested in reading: http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/systemic_yeast_mini_course.htm). I went to the nzymes.com site and did some more research and even did a couple googles searches for reviews. I couldn't find much negative about the Nzymes product so I ordered the Anitoxidant treats the Bac-Plus (probiotics) and the Ox-E drops.
I got…

Lyla discovered something amazing yesterday... if she climbs up on to the arm of the sofa, and really coils her corgi springs tight, and times it just right, she can jump all the way from the couch to the loveseat (a good 2-3 feet at least). It's very impressive! I can almost see on her face the self-talk she must be doing inside her head as she psychs herself up to jump. "Okay, it's a really long way away, but I can do it. I've done it before. I'm scared. No I'm not! I'm a big girl. I can make…

Tonight I did something unforgivable, something that no nice, respectable pet owner would ever do... I brought a hula hoop into the living room! I know, I know, I'm horrible.
The way Lyla acted you would have thought I was getting ready to put her in the garbage disposal. I wasn't even asking her to get near it and already she was hiding behind the couch. Sky was having fun jumping in and out of it so I started coaxing Lyla toward it. She walked up to it in her "I'm the 'scaredest'…

Sky is going to start Agility classes this week! I am so excited and I know he would be too if he understood. Has anyone ever done agility before? Any stories or suggestions?

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update on Lyla since it's been a while. She turned 7 months old yesterday and is getting so big! Over 17 pounds now! She is still lacking many "Corgi" traits I have been expecting to kick in any day. She is NOT food motivated, she doesn't even finish her meals most of them time, and when she does, she acts like it's a chore. Silly Corgi. She is also still really laid back and almost never rambunctious. When she's outside she is a hyper little dog, but as…

Lyla is getting spayed tomorrow and I'm so nervous! When Sky got neutered it was horrible!! He was sooo sick after, in so much pain, and ended up even getting a UTI. From the talking I have done with dog owners since I have learned this is not common, especially in males, but I'm just so anxious about going through all that again. The first night I brought him back was literally so bad I had to board him at the vet for the next two days because I didn't get any sleep between the licking,…

I woke up to the sound of a dog vomiting at 3 AM (lovely, I know). I almost didn't get up because I thought I was dreaming, but did and went into the "dog room" where I keep Sky's and Lyla's crates. I was hit by the overwhelming smell of diarrhea. Poor Lyla had been having diarrhea all night it looked like. her poor paws were covered. I got her out of the crate and straight into the tub where she threw up 8 more times and had another diarrhea in less than an hour! I was trying to wait until 8…

I found this guy on craigslist tonight. He really is striking. I posted the link hoping maybe someone on here might be able to give him a good home. Wish I could, but I have my hands full with my own two right now!

Just Kidding!!! I'm not really giving up my sweet girl, but I'm frustrated enough with her this morning I'm feeling that "I'm about to put you out on the street corner with a sign that says 'take me,;" feeling that I used to get when Sky was little and naughty!
This morning Lyla was having lots of fun playing in the rain. This made it harder than usual for me to get her in from outside. (She is hard to get in on an average morning,…

Sky, my Mini Australian Shepherd, has a propensity for needing veterinary attention. If there is an illness to catch, a disease to inherit, or an injury to get, he is there. I affectionally call him my "lemon" dog because everything seems to go wrong with him.
Well, Friday was his 1st birthday so he decide to go big (Sky never does anything halfway!). I had 3 kids over for the evening and we were letting the dogs out before we went to dinner. We were all standing on the patio and I…

So tonight was Lyla's first Puppy class. I debated for a while about whether or not to even sign her up for one, since I can teach all the commands at home for free, but eventually decided on it because Lyla is a little timid and could benefit from the socialization.
First night of class, we walk in, and Lyla's instructor reminds me of an older version of the dog trainer off of Marley and Me. Yikes! Sure enough, the first class was spent practicing alpha rollovers with the dogs. I…

Lyla went on her first walk today! I loaded up both of the dogs and went down to the Riverwalk for an evening stroll. I will definitely have to invest in a double leash so those two don't get so hopelessly tangled, but other than that it was great. We walked close to 2 miles and poor Lyla was so tired! On the way home she fell asleep in the car. Big brother Sky, however, was sitting up looking at me like "that was a nice warm-up mom, what's next?" =)
