Hopefully saved a life

So, yesterday me and my boyfriend were going to do laundry. The laundry mat right up the road from us was packed so we decided that we would go to the one in the next town over and try that one. As we were driving through town, (which is very small) there was a little Jack Russell running through the road. I'm so proud of my boyfriend because I think I have been rubbing off on him. Before I could even say anything, he asked if we should pick it up. I pulled into the gas station where she ran… Continue

Rally Dreams, Pet Store Trips, and Compromising Principles

Lyla "graduated" into the 3rd and final level of obedience class about 4 weeks ago, and has been doing beautifully. So beautifully in fact, that we attend an Intro to Rally class the other day. I think it would be lots of fun for Lyla and I to try and since I will be going to shows with the new pup anyway, I can take one more dog and crate and do Rally with Lyla. So Lyla and I will be starting Rally classes sometime next month with the hope of competing at Brando's Memorial Day Weekend…

There are a couple hundred of them, so I don't want to clog the upload by posting them all, but come over to my blog and see :)

Mom, is that you?

Coalbyn's Patriot's Dream - AKA "Dreamer" AKA "Mom"

Our little family went off to the big dog show in Scottsdale today. We went mostly to see Gromit's breeder, Jean York (above) who had come from California for the show. We also wanted to show Jean and her husband Ed how Gromit is doing. Jean and Ed are wonderful people and utterly devoted to Corgis.…

Spring is coming!

First of all I'd like to share that Callie's back is fine and she's feeling better.

In other news I'm so excited that spring is coming and with that brings warmer weather. The only thing is the fact that Callie gets SO dirty when we go outside. My apartment place's grass is thin and mostly mud, they have been trying things to make it grow and last summer there was a difference, but still there is a lot of mud. Also in the parking lot all the gravel and water makes a big mess. So… Continue

Celebrating Lizzie's 2nd Birthday!

Can't believe it has been another year.. time sure does fly! Lizzie is still as busy as ever... this year she has visited Grandma and Grandaddy in Virginia three times. She spent some time in Nags Head NC.. went swimming in the sound! She has enjoyed visiting with her friends at Corgi meetups and the FL Corgi picnic, where she meet another sister Penny, won the petsmart halloween costume contest, and just completed a class so she can visit nursing homes! We still love going to the puppy park… Continue

Let us pause (paws?) for a moment

Here's Gromit's first piece of backyard agility equipment, a new pause table. I built it out of some lumber salvaged from another project. A bit of sawing, some sanding, a couple of dozen deck screws, a bit of blue "parking lot zone paint" with some sand in it to make it non-skid and we're good to go. The REAL carpenters and woodworkers reading this are requested to please muffle…

Not crating again+Treat on nose

We're back to leaving Eddy running free while we're gone. It's been about a month, and so far, no issues. We even did a ton of cleaning and re-arranging, and it still didn't seem to incite chewing. Usually he goes crazy when the environment is ruffled. Maybe the puppy chewing is over, but we're still looking out for general destruction. Of course we try to leave him sleepy, full, and surrounded by favorite playthings. Hopefully that's enough and we don't run into deeper problems.…

*Happy 3rd Birthday*

My baby girl is growing up so fast! Today is her 3rd birthday. She got scrambled eggs for breakfast & a nice long walk... I just love my little Lola bear!!! The first picture is the one we saw on a website & decided to get her (yes, I know... HORRIBLE that I got her online, I won't EVER do that again now that I know better) and the 2nd picture is of her just a few weeks ago. Still so pretty :)…

Butch the Corgi Detective

Hey everyone, thought I'd pass along this link to a story of a brave corgi named Butch. If the thief is apprehended, I think Butch should get a reward, don't you????

puff, puff, wheeze, wheeze

I sort of semi-fiddled around with agility stuff back about 2000 with my first Corgi and had some basic, homemade agility equipment in the backyard. Tossed it all out last year due to age and condition. Holly, our min-Dachshund, loves to play "squeaky chase" and "I'm hiding and I'm not coming out." Agility never seemed to interest her, however.

Agility training, even in a casual way is good stuff for dogs and dog owners. I think it gives direction to training and makes it seem less… Continue

Aggressive Eaters

Ein & Faye are great dogs and you can take anything away from them, or put your hand right over or into their dish while they are eating without incident. But get them anywhere near one another - even if they are just crated side by side - and introduce food, and you are asking for a fight.

They didn't start out quite that aggressive, and in the past, Ein has been very submissive about it, preferring not to get into a fight. However Faye is very possessive of food - including food… Continue

Free 1 yr old corgi for adoption!

My corgi breeder has a 1 yr old red female for adoption. Her name is Copper. The people that adopted her do not have the time to work with her. She has some food aggression. When she was worked with she began to rehabilitate quite well, however, the previous owners did not have the time to work with her and is asking for help to find a family to adopt her that can rehabilitate her. I would so take her, however, with my living arrangements I can not take on another dog. I have pictures of her…

Some Wise Fellow

My two favorite critters: Gromit and my son Dave.

Writing the previous posts, which were more about the Corgis I had than the one I now have, brought to mind a quote I picked up somewhere. I have no idea who it may have been but some wise fellow once said "A new dog can never take the place of an old dog but in time will make a place for itself." So it is with my new Corgi pal… Continue
